Aw.... I was expecting to play both Mental Omega 3 and Renegade-X for Christmas, but instead Renegade-X gets a release date similar to that C&C F2P open beta release date.

Looks like Mental Omega 3 will become the 2013 C&C mod of the year and Renegade-X the 2014 C&C indie of the year. ;)

Edit: Here's another article from GameFront:

Should be fun! I'm looking forward to reliving some fond Renegade memories, the long games into the early hours of the morning. I'm confident that Renegade X will capture the multiplayer magic that Renegade had.

the renegadeX will not be jsut an HD remake of the old Renegade.

renagade x is going to use new revolutionizing ways of gameplay, with buildings that have an actually effect and purpose in the FPS, regarding your weapons etc.

this is not jsut an other FPS.

this can probably change and make new FPS game styles that could lead to First Person Strategy (and not just shooter)

and for that (plus the amazing unreal3 graphics) i am really looking forward to. if they manage to make single player in the future or add always content on that, i would even PAY them.-

They have the Black Dawn demo already, and I heard they have been programming bots for multiplayer skirmish, though if you mean a full campaign, I don't think they will do that.

When you said that you made me think of Natural Selection 2. The first of these games (which I believe was a mod for Half-Life) was probably the first thing I've experienced having game play similarities to those of Renegade. I would go as far to say that Natural Selection is more of a FPS-RTS than Renegade, although they are in different ways.

yeah i mean maybe in the future a bigger full single player campaign. definitely willing to pay for their content if the games is solid.

There's also the mod Empires for HL2 and the games Battlezone and Battlezone 2 (Not the 80's Battlezone) which literally are FPS-RTS games.

They can't take money for their work because of their deal with EA, IIRC.

Oh yeah, funny thing is the OP mentions how the release date is the same as the one for the cancelled C&C game, but the news post that it links to says it was chosen because it was the 12th birthday of Renegade's release. What's really interesting though is that the post also mentions that Victory Games was going to help them with the release, so maybe there is a connection after all?

Everyone that can should support them.

That trailer was absolutely stunning as said above. Holy crap!! Some of these Renegade X guys better have jobs or get jobs with gaming studios... this is looking way too good. And it's nice to know they picked the day before my birthday ;) I know it was done on purpose! I'm so looking forward to this so much! Might sink my grades but worth it!

Start at 6pm.. end at 4am. I'm definitely in agreement.
