Petroglyph's secret project revealed :)

Recommended Posts

Well those people have been busy working on a Star Wars themed RTS :)

Dont think it'll have the star wars feel to it, but heck I'd love to make me some jedis and watch them say something along the lines of "whos your daddy?"

This has the potential and the ex-westwooders have got themselves a good licence to work with and get their name noticed.

FLOP!!!

No Star wars RTS has ever really got off the ground and I doubt this one will either..

Anyway your links don't work ... here's one that does

Interesting... so now all the C&C3-Petroglyph conspiracy theories can go in the recycle bin

C&C is the property of EA, Petroglyph could never make it anyway.

Star Wars RTS can be the spirtual successor to TS & RA2

Hope they have same style music and movies

Yeah but we can dream.....

I didn't think much of the Starwar movies recently. The old ones are nice for their time. But the newer ones seem kinda light as far as plot goes.

I think we already killed off those theories months ago.

So your linking Star Wars to C&C

The only true successor will come from EA.

Seriously, this a real let down on Petroglyph's part. The world doesn't need another Star Wars game, its already been done to death.

They needed something high profile to start with, and I don't blame them for accepting when Lucasarts offered. Granted it's not what most of us want, but it's good for them to get established as a new company with strong ties to a very strong gaming universe. Granted the Star Wars RTSs have all reeked, but if they can be the first to get it right, and do it well at the same time, maybe Petroglyph's first game could help them get the money they need to make the game they want for themselves instead of making a game for other people.

It'll wreak with Emperor ingrediants all over... A mediocre RTS with not enough polish methinks...

But they should have stuck with their guns... the only publisher that releases star wars games is LucasArts themselves... I very much doubt this'll be a one game contract somehow

Give them a chance at least. See what they're doing before even making judgements like that.

Actually, Emperor was a great game, it was Westwood who screwed up and never promoted it enough in the first place.

Emperor was an average game I thinks. Grahpics were crap. Gameplay wasn't too much better. Yeah. Thats my take on Emperor.

Anyway ya never know they might make a real good game. Even if its based on starwars...

Emperor is a very good game. Especially if you consider the fact that its engine was a big change from RA2, and Generals was still in developement at the time.

And what type of system did you run it on? It looked rather horrible if you didn't meant the requirements.

I don't see my self showing any interest in this Star Wars RTS, I have the atittude towards it as I do with BfME.

I probably may consider getting it IF and only IF it presents some new concepts to the RTS genre. If it copies all ideas out there including those set up by Perimeter then I'm not going to be interested.

The only thing that will make me buy this game is innovation and the promise that it is something more than we hoped for... I've thought this through a bit and realised that if Petroglyph do pull this off then we will see an excellent RTS. How it will attempt to become the new generation RTS, we will have to see. But since the Total War franchise there has only been on RTS King, and it's not C&C.

It superceded the required specs.... I just didn't like the graphics that much...

LucasArts announce a real-time Star Wars strategy game from the Command and Conquer team

With Episode III, Revenge of the Sith, KOTOR 2 and about fifty other games already in the pipeline for 2005, you might think that LucasArts would be running out of the PCs and people needed to make any more games but somehow the US publisher/developer has found enough room for just one more Star Wars title.

However, two things are still lacking from this PC project - a name and a release date (although the end of next year looks most likely). And while it might not have a moniker yet, the game does have one big name on board in the shape of developers Petroglyph. And that is a name that will be familiar to any strategic battle fans as the team already have such RTS titles with Emperor: Battle for Dune, Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun, Z and Earth and Beyond all sat on their CV's.

No-one will say at the moment if the game will focus on one particular era of the six part series or cross the Clone Wars to the climax on Endor but President of LucasArts Jim Ward has said "This game will take the genre in a new direction and will balance gameplay between the hard-core gamers who buy these games and the broader audience that's familiar with the Star Wars brand".

I like Star Wars games. If they make a gameplay similar to old CNC I'll buy it, but if it's only crap using a name, I won't.

The last SW RTS I played was Gallatic Battlegrounds. It wasn't bad, only looked too much like Age of Empires (same engine, I think).

I once saw a mod for Homeworld that wanted to put all SW ships there, if it goes well it will be a good SW RTS, I hope.

I'm not sure I could see a Star Wars RTS being the "spirirual successor" of C&C... what a depressing thought! Star Wars already has its own rich atmosphere, as does C&C. Looking at the historical precedent, we can guess that this game will likely be an average RTS that labors to capture the "feeling" of Star Wars. We can still hope, however, that the guys who we love so much over at Petroglyph do SUCH an amazing job that the game sets a new standard in RTS, Petroglyph makes hundreds of millions, buys out EA, renames it Westwood, and gloriously restarts the C&C dynasty under the Westwood banner!!! Yeah!! That's what will happen!! 2 QUALITY C&C games every year until we die!!!!

...maybe I'm being a bit delusional
