Following Adam Isgreen's statement on the CNCNZ newspage...

After spending 2 years out at EA after Westwood was "consolidated", with several abortive attempts to get a new C&C off the ground, EA and I have parted ways.

I'm heading back to Vegas to work with the already stellar group of ex-westwoodians and great new people that make up the staff of Petroglyph. I'm very excited by what Petro has been doing, and suffice it to say that C&C fans will not be disappointed by what's coming in the future.... =)

The whole EALA adventure made me aware that a "big" company offers no more stability than any other, and at the end of the day, you should really do what makes you happy, because if you do great work, chances are you'll have that stability you're after anyway.

Stay tuned for more news from the Petro front... =)

A-

Does this mean EA are losing grip on their ex-Westwood colleagues? What does this mean for C&C? And is Mark Skagg's absence have anything to do with the morale of the EA team? Give us your opinion about this latest news.

I hope it does. I realise that Westwood people leaving EA is a good way to show that EA is crap, but it does worry me because there are fewer and fewer people there to ensure that fun remains as the core value of C&C.

Yeh, and EA stole all the rights to make a C&C named game, so Petro wont be allowed to make a C&C game

I'd have to say maybe. The part where Adam says "C&C fans will not be disappointed by what's coming in the future" still sounds promising to me.

However thats now 3 key depatures of former Westwood staff from EA now. Althought Mark Skaggs will return in the future.

I think EA did a bang- up job on C&C generals. But the idea of a Red Alert 3 sounds dissapointing. I have never been a fan of the RA universe

I have to say, good for him.

EA aren't loosing grip because they have already lost grip..a long, long time ago.

It won't be such a bad thing to have new blood pumping in the C&C legacy...

Maybe they're give C&C a new perspective... Cause I'm tired of generic RTS games like Generals. Least Rome Total war was different.

right lets get down to it.. EA have lost the plot, they are just out to dominate the market. there should be a law aganst it... if ea dont wake up we will have just Politicly corect games and only games for the market that most of us hardcore gamers hate. eg. zoo tycoon 2, NFS underground2 etc.

EA get a grip you are killing the market, make good games that push boundreys of computers.

give us a new engene for RA3 sage is over used. come on 3 games out of that engene. cnc generals cnc generals: zero hour and battle for middle earth.

act of war give EA HELL.:twisted::D

Would it kill ya' to use sentences? (Cause if it dont, then I will  )

Either EA is losing the C&C people and RA3 and TT are gona be crap

OR

Petroglyph is gona kick EA's ass with what their workin' on. Former Westwood verses EA. Hmm........tough choice. Think I'd pick PETROGLYPH

EA hasn't lost anything. If anything, they're gaining ground rather than losing it. EA dominates the market for one reason and one reason alone: sales. People buy their products so they must be doing SOMETHING right if that many people purchase their products. You also have to keep in mind that EA caters to PC and console junkies alike so they have a broad spectrum of outlets to use.

I don't think them buying everyone out is a good thing nor do I see it happening. It'd never happen; some companies are just too big. Valve anyone?

NFSU 2 is cool game, got it myself

EA can make good games, BF 1942 and NFSU 2 are good examples, they just shouldn't have gone to the C&C part of the gaming world

Actually, EA didn't develop BF1942, Dice did. Saying that, the game probably wouldn't have been half as buggy if it wasn't published by EA. I can imagine EA were just interested in releasing a half-finished game as early as possible, therefore rushing Dice. That would explain why the game was extremely buggy at release.

It's not always a rush job that makes it buggy. It's sloppy coding and half-assed work. Half-Life 2 was extremely buggy at its initial release and it had been delayed for a LOOOOOOONG time... It's not rushing, it's sloppy work.

Come to think of it EA might have just ruined the C&C franchise, however the former westwood and EA employees at Petroglyph studios did say thay had somthing to impress us?? this may not be another C&C by name but hopefully will be very close to the way C&C was before the EA takeover. Have to admit tho, NFSU2 is a great game but it seems to be quantity and not quality with EA.

thanks you are right with that, i think petroglyph will make a game that will challange EA again, i also think that the reason why ex westwood workers are leaveing EA is because EA doesen't have the same vision that these works want. EA mainly cater for the console market.

That is their golden rule.

Did you know that employees working on Generals had to make a model, a skin, put the skin on the model and that in 30 mins? Employees were told they should not spent more then half an hour on a model and the skin, that includes UV mapping!

Heck, after half an hour nowadays I'm just finished with the chassis lol.

Thats just a rumor. You can't prove that statement.

Man do we have to bash EA all the time??? Can't we just bash Bush instead least he's interesting. :P

Bush dont make C&C games....

But if its a rumor, then why is the bottom face of the crusader turret missing? Destroy a crusader and the turret flips and you see straight through it... And of course the skins used could have been much better

Well, they are profesionals. Then again, Thierry makes a very excellent point. Theres a lot of stuff missing in Generals graphics wise. On mine (dont know if its my comp or not) when an infantry or a tree gets lit on fire, instead of burning with flames, they just turn brown until they die, or in the trees case, it just turns black after a while. But the firestorm created by the MiGs and Inf. cannons still shows big ass flames.

Havent really noticed much else, 'cept the crusader turret that was mentioned.

Go Petroglyph.

Another thing is, that EA removed just about all the bottom faces of most vehicles.

For the chassis this would only make a difference of 2 polys..2!!

That would mean you would have to build 200 tanks to get the amount of polys you would be saving on 1 tank...

And when EA added the Nuke Mig, which could throw units in the air, you could see straight through them...

I bash EA and its their own fault

If they would put a little more effort into their products, then they wouldnt be bashed so much. Hope they realize that for RA3.

Go Petroglyph

Another Departure!!! :?

This time it's Chris Rubyor (A.K.A. Deplhi), here's his statement:

Hey guys,

Lots of stuff happening these days so I hope I don't catch ya off guard.

Well, I just wanted to let you know that I have resigned from my position as a Game Designer (Red Alert 3) at EALA. It was a tough decision, but one that had to be made.

I enjoyed my two years spent at the company. It gave me the opportunity to work with some great people and make some fun games (Zero Hour and Lord of the Rings: BFME). Sadly, I leave behind more than 10 years of RTS history which includes Westwood Studios and the C&C community. I remain confident that EA will continue to make unique and exciting games within the Command & Conquer universe.

What's in store for the future? I'll be heading back to Las Vegas to join the ranks of some extremely talented game developers and ex-westwoodian friends at Petroglyph. They have some amazing stuff planned and I can't wait to be a part of it.

Take care and stay in touch!

Chris Rubyor (aka Delphi)

EA have lost grip! So those who didn't vote yes, what do you say now???
