Forum Errors (Updated Information Posted)

Recommended Posts

While browsing and/or posting on the forums you may come across this error message.....

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

What this means is the mySQL server that hosts our forum database is overloaded with to many requests at once.

I will continue to monitor the situation, if it gets worse I will inform our hosts, Gaming Source.

I got a reply from Robin at Gaming Source about the problem. He said the server was experiencing problems with database connectivity over Saturday/Sunday due to extremely high server loads. Gaming Source are currently looking into the option of getting a dedicated server just for

processing MySQL requests.

The server config files have been optimised a bit so the error you were all getting should be gone now.

Gaming Source needs to get a new server already.... this one lags to hell and back.

I'm getting the error for the 1st time when trying to view threads.

They have 2 servers already. It's just a case of going through and seeing who's running scripts that use up all the cpu and ask them to stop it. Restarting the SQL takes 2 secs and 2 clicks in WHM.

Sonic, take a look in cPanel and see what the server load is like.

Its fine for me, speed is good. Perhaps its your connection.

I checked it, the server CPU load is rather high, at the time of posting this it was on 5.72 (1 cpu). The good thing is Gaming Source are aware of the situation.

I can't do much other than report problems.

A load of about six is nothing compared to what I did to the server I'm on. I got it up to between 80 and 100. They had to turn off my account until I fixed the problem.

PS - Never **** up a script to keep opening the same file over and over again. :P

I must admit the server hasn't been very responsive lately. It can sometimes take a good 10-20 seconds to load up any page of the site sometimes. Usually it's all done in under a second, but on occassion, it's been taking a while.

It has been running like a snail recently.

I've had my account suspended because the C&C Top 101 was using up too much of the servers recources :P

It appears this problems on our server have returned. Once again we are being bombarded by this error.

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

Gaming Source have traced the problem back to the MySQL queries on the server. Currently to many queries are being run for this server (or any server) to handle at the moment.

As most of you are aware, CNCNZ.com shares this server with few other sites. I forget the total number and names of these sites, but there is one site that may be adding fuel to the fire, let me quote a small bit of text in an e-mail I got from Robin at Gaming Source to explain.

I've just noticed that [NAME REMOVED] is using mysql_pconnect, a very nasty use of MySQL queries that can cause serious load problems if it's not being used correctly.

The problem is being worked on, its just going to take some time to fix.

I hope they sort it soon, it took 8 attempts of clicking reply in order to type this message, and knowing my luck it will take a further 4 or 5 times to post it

It's not that bad where I'm at, but at least the source of the problem has been located.

No real updates for you. All I know Gaming Source have been monitoring the problem, tweaking settings on the server etc....

It not as bad as it was before, I have only had one error in the last week I think.
