Today's British Comedy is far from great from the likes of Red Dwarf, Fawlty Towers etc.. Little Britain is the same old stale jokes within different scenarios... Once you've seen one show, you've seen them all. It's pretty poor :roll:

i mean come on there were so many good British comedies years' ago... (Red Dwarf being the best and Fawlty towers somewhere behind. shame they only made a few epi's of Fawlty...) all the kids i see at college or school are all "omg omg omg though yeah but no but it's so new and funny *cue beavis + butthead type laugh*" arg ;

HA. At least American comedies have 'wtf' factor going for them. British humor is so dry that I need a glass of water after watching one (I do like Fawlty Towers and Monty Python).

wait, are you attacking the Simpsons?? The Simpsons is incredible! I like Monty Python (I assume you're referencing the Holy Grail) pretty well, but from what I've seen it's the only really funny thing produced by the British! Honestly. And even then, it does not "make us Americans look bad." :roll:

The simpsons and Friends are my favourite... but the problem with trying to compare American & British comedies is the difference in comedy culture. It may appear stale and dry alot of the time... ok we do churn out crap in recent times, but the brits can say the same for the American's.

 

There are so many different factors that go into explaining why we may not find each other's comedies funny but I haven't got 5 hours and a spare keyboard to explain it all. So I'll summerise...

 

Brit comedy = mainly based upon references to British culture that is not usual heard of outside our boarders. Jokes usual short, to the point, and fast and witty.

 

American = Comedy based upon everyday life, things that people can relate to. Story driven most of the time and always positive.

 

Thus is the reason why our comedies don't work in the USA. The office for example was very fast and quick, and takes some understanding. Comtained alot of depressive scenario humour which Americans prefer not to relate to as their comedies are always set in a scenario of happy more uplifting tempos...
