Expensive Peripherals Suck!

I got this top of the range Logitech Mx-518 optical gaming mouse from the BfME2 community summit in August, and guess what!? The left mouse button has worn out already. Aparently the damn thing only lasts for approximately 10,000 clicks!! Not only does that suck, I loved that mouse, it was cool, you could do all sorts of things with it!

 

Now I'm using the optical mouse I replaced for the Logitech. I've had this for just under 2 years, and have surpassed at least 40,000 clicks with it. This mouse funnily enough is a basic, non-branded, cheap optical mouse. It has done me proud and probably will for another 2 years minimum.

 

For a cheap mouse that costs 4 times less, to outlast an expensive gaming mouse is just highly ironic. It's happened to me before when I bought an expensive mouse, that packed up after just 4 months!!! From now on I'll stick with cheap PC Peripherals... They last longer!

I have a nice crappy roll ball mouse, from back in 1998 for my old comp. And its still going strong, after 2 optical mice for my laptop.

MS IntelliMouse Explorer is what I use, I'm onto my third one. They last me around 3 years each.

You should go with Kensington, if yours ware out before your warranty is over(Usually 5 years) they will just replace it. Well I don't know if they will if you say that, but say your mouse is not working properly and they will ask you to reinstall the drivers then say it didn't work to that and they will ship you a new one. Mine was getting worn and I just asked them(Not even knowing I still had a warranty!) what I could do and they said they would just ship me another... With a new 5 year warranty.

Logitech MX500. Just clicks, scrolls and moves. All I need it to do. Been with me for a little over 6 years now.

I still have the mouse that came with my Windows3.1 computer I got back in 1993. Still works like the day I got it.

 

My last mouse had another issue where the scroll wheel would stick... That was annoying but it worked good enough for me.

I don't click that hard, like anyone else really.

 

Before I moved to optical I had the same mouse between 1996 and 2001. The I got a new computer in 2001, and had a standard Microsoft mouse, then I got annoyed with rollerball mice in 2003 (too much cleaning involved), and moved to the cheap optical mouse I'm using now. If you want a mouse history here you go.. :wink:

 

1995: Commodore 400 dpi Ergonomic mouse (lasted 4 months! Cost quite alot back then)

 

1996: Cheap rollerball mouse (lasted until 2001)

 

2001: Microsoft rollerball mouse (Came with new PC)

 

2003: Cheap optical mouse (still works)

 

Aug 05: Logitech Mx518 Optical Gaming mouse (lasted 6 months)

 

Jan 06: Back to 2003's cheap optical mouse.

 

So one can summarise, I haven't really been through many mice, and funnily enough the cheap one's still go on and on :wink:

The only mice I have ever had real isues with are the MAC mice used at school (stupids macs) where the whole mouse clicks down instead of a single (or double) button. Those things jam after about 50 clicks (this is brand new too)

Why do you count how many times you click?

 

I've got a nice cheap £12 wireless mouse/keyboard combo and it works fine. I'm wired up with an MS Intellimouse on my gaming computer though.

My mouse has lasted me awhile now, a good 6 years. An A4 Tech optical mouse or something like that. 'Tis starting to die on me a bit though, the sensor gets a little retarded from time to time. Cost me a good $70 too.

Well, I don't , the leaflet inside the Logitech box the mouse came in said it's lifespan was 10,000 clicks. I refer to 40,000 on my old mouse based on the amount of use I've given both mice. Hence, since I've used my cheap mouse for about 4 times as long, it's a logical conclusion.

 

But when you really think about it, 10,000 clicks is nothing. Especially when I play games and surf the net every day for about 4-6 hours. :wink:

Yeah, I was gonna say, 10000 is nothing. I don't pulse until I have around 45000 and that only takes me a few days. ****, I'd kill of 4 of the mice King had in less than a week. :|

I say just get the Microsoft Platinum Explorer IntelliMouse, I use one these. Works great and its a bit cheaper. $82.85 at Ascent Tech.

I had the Microsoft Explorer (same model you show there), but it was miserable for gaming. The left click wore out quickly and it is really glitchy. I use it on another computer in the house, and it works alright, but I just love the Razer.
