I have a bog-standard 17 inch regular moniter and it's fine. I also have a top-of-the-range 15 inch flatscreen (16ms refresh rate) and it does noticably reduce glare.

All I want is a good monitor that can display 1600 X 1200 properly without have any fuzziness or something.

Well be careful when buying an LCD (flatscreen) moniter as they look fuzzy outside their native resolutions, I think most have native resolutions of 1024*768 - mine does. Also you must buy one with a response time of less than 16 miliseconds otherwise playing games will cause the screen to blur.

I found a good 19'' monitor. I've also heard that Nvadia is slower then Radeon but also more reliable. Which is better? (without graphical errors)

nvidia is so slow it's not funny. this FX 5200 I'm forced to use is slower than a Radeon 9000 pro, which is old enough that FX boards didn't exist then. it's really sad.

So I should go radeon? I thought it gives errors

i have a ATI Radeon 9200 128 MB and have no problems with generals at all

The Radeon is fine with the latest drivers. It's all a matter of taste, really. Nvidia has some advantages over ATI, but ATI's high-end model is faster than Nvidia's by a slight margin. It's really up to you as to what you want to spend on a video card.

And as for the matter of the FX 5200 being slower than the Radeon 9000 Pro - it's meant to be, the price is between $15-20 CDN lower on the FX.

I'll tell you my sister bought the 5200 for at least 50 dollars more. I should mention the Radeon is a powercolour, but the Radeon simply out performs it with any particle animation. there is very noticeable drop in FPS when any particles are generated with the FX, it's not a pretty thing to see, whereas the Radeon doesn't slow down at all.

Thnx guys, I geuss I'll go Radeon then. Either 9800 Pro or 9800 XT. I think about Sapphire Radeon or Hercules Radeon, there is also ASUS Radeon and ATI Radeon, is there any diffenrence?

slight difference in drivers and card desing mostly, the GPU on all of the cards is manufactured by ATI wich is the ati radeon and the rest is manufactured by Sapphire, ASUS etc from what ive seen in benchmarks Sapphire provide the best clocked up radeons but only by 25mhz or so

incase you want to decipher these benchmarks yourself go here: http://www.hothardware.com/hh_files/S&...re_9800xt.shtml

and incase you want the latest drivers when u get ur new system head over to www.ati.com or www.sapphiretech.com good luck with ur new machine

Thnkx guys. I think that my PC will look something like this.

Motherboard: ASUS P4P800 Deluxe

Proccesor: Intel P4 2,8 GHZ, 800Mhz, 1MB Cache (there also was 3,2 GHZ but with 512 instead of 1MB Cache)

CPU: 360 or 400 Watt

RAM: 1 GB

HD: 120 GB 7200 RPM, SATA

Floppy Drive

DVD ROM

CD RW

Monitor: 19'' (maybe flat CRT)

Video: Sapphire Radeon or Hercules Radeon (since Hercules is 100,- cheaper) 9800 XT

Audio Card: Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1

Speakers: Creative Inspire P580, 5,1: 5 X 6W + 1 X 17W

And of course all the other small things.

All of that for around 1500 to 1600,- euro ( in dollars its that devided by 1,2)

Kinda of good?

i think 400w would be more apropriate as Radeon XT 9800 needs alot of power! im not sure if it needs the same as fx 5950 but i need a 350 watt min to run fx 5950 so i think 400w would be a better choice for the hardware you are geting

Ok, then 400 Watt it is.

It is funny though, the price that was payed for 40GB at the time I bought my old PC was about 130,- euros. Now I can get about 120/160 GB for that. Prices change, huh?

yeah cus hardware is updating all the time. Honestly i dont think any 1 has a 100% up to date pc if they do its only for a few weeks as technology advances so quick :? i for one cant wait to get my hands on the new nVidia card i have a feelin its gonna do alot better than the fx and anything ATI can throw at it but only time can tell

Before you know it we will all have 10GHZ Proccesors, 10GB RAM 4 GB Video, etc.

Also software is updating. Just take a look at graphics. Red Alert 1 and Generals differ a lot in graphics. Maybe one day we will have such real games...

Then she unfortunately paid too much for it. My local retailers all sell it for at least $15 lower.

I still would encourage waiting until later this month before purchasing a new video card. Nvidia is definitely rolling out its new product line this month, and ATi may be following suit, so prices on the 9800XT will be dropping after that happens. It may be a good way to save $100 or more on your computer.

yeah i think u shuld wait maybe get ur Radeon XT then or a new nVidia card either way is wise new tech grafix card and lower price for XT

Another example of how the video card is flooded with to many cards these days, this is what makes it hard for people when the time comes to purchase the best card to meet their needs.

BTW, Thierry your avatar is the scariest looking cat I've ever seen, unless you count that fat cat picture posted by Lion on the main page of CNC Den

Nice cat huh? I got an even worse one, but I'll spare you guys.

And I have towait a month 'cause then my brother is moving out and I get his bigger room. And then I can buy it. (else I would have to place cabels and stuff that I would only use for a month)

BTW...

A friend of mine is also looking for a video cart. He can't get 9800 XT but is hesistating between FX5700 256MB and ATI 9800 Pro 128 MB

What do you guys think?

Between those two cards? The 9800 Pro is far, far superior :)

Yeah, I kinda of thought of that. Thnkx. I am wondering though... Is there a Nvidia card that equals with FXV9950?

Sorry, I typed a bit wrong. I was asking if there is a Nvidia card that equals with 9800 Pro (or XT).
