It's a nice touch. and all this info really sells the unit, and the game.

But wouldn't Tacitus Tuesdays have a better ring to it :P

Im even more certain that the Mechapede is one of the best units in RTS history ever created. Imagine having even more choices! It was called Millipede at first...interesting!

The animation to the unit is quite impressive. It actually looks like an insect moving (the motion of movement).

Its going to be fun screwing around with players heads online.

Hehe. Finally a unique Tier-3 unit, like the Mammoth Tank and the Avatar. The Tripod was nothing but an avatar with 3 arms...

i agree with Koen that this is a very unique unit. i really wish EA would have thought twice about the epic units for NOD and GDI...but oh well it aint over till the fat lady sings so we'll see how awesome what they cooked up turns out to be..

This is not Scrin's Epic Unit :)

And imho both GDI's and Nod's are great- They have one huge weapon by default (Sonic grenade thrower/Three-pointed laser), can have 2/4 independent turrets which are determined by which infantry you park into them, and they have both unique and cool powers (Speed-Tiberium harvesting/Rage generator). Not to mention that they gain veterancy just as any other unit, regen health and are able to crush tanks (In case of the Redeemer even Mammoths).

Whats not to love?

It's a simple observation of media marketing, and you're missing the flaw of this marketing approach.

A solidly contructed and well thought out marketing event will always attempt to exploit one or more of the senses. When selling something like food, or a car on TV you exploit the visual sense, and show off the product from unusual angles which capture the light and detail of the images to entice possible consumers.

When you can't sufficiently market by visual flare alone (In the case of advertisements of printed press for example) then you follow up the visual stimuli with a tag line, a slogan, something that when you say it, it sticks in your mind. So if you look at "Tacitus Thursdays" it doesn't seem much, but when you say it, it doesn't sound much either... you get "Ta" and the "Thur" sounds coming through and the name of such an event falls on it's face and therefore is fundamentally flawed.

Now with "Tacitus Tuesdays", it may not look much, but when you say it... You instantly get the strong emphasis on the T flowing through both words. As a result, it sounds better, comes off the tongue better, and the strength of pronunciation allows a "Tacitus Tuesday", to stick in your mind. Therefore you're more likely to remember it, and come a Tuesday your mind is going to trigger, and you're instantly going to know to go to the official C&C site, or CNCNZ and check out the latest Kane's Wrath news without a second thought.

I can be a harsh Critic, but I did spend 3 years successfully completing "Business Studies", and "Media and Marketing Studies" courses.... None of this goes to waste! ;)

Tacitus Tuesday sounds better to me, and I heard that the Scrin Epic is something else, a large spider thing.

Saracen: I dont think the average person is putting so much emphasis and thought on this. I know i didnt, and i tried to "audiolize" in my mind before what exactly makes the difference between Tuesday and Thursday. To be honest, there was never a big diversity for me in these two words, but that may be because im Austrian and i very often mistook these two anyway

Already saved Thursday--->Tacitus day in my mind. Dont really care wheter it sounds worse or is questionable marketing-wise, that there is actually news coverage on any given day is what matters to me. And anyone whos interested in CnC is hitting CnC-related sites at least once a week regardless.

I really gave your posts a thought and imho these methods dont work on everyone (See Lukus' post for example ;)).

Btw, i also learned about the positive effect of wording/pronouncing words in a certain way- both at uni and at my workplace- But i realized most customers dont go with it and are annoyed/lost. I do love me some clever advertising though, but TT doesnt really strike me as advertising as much as information.

Saracen's comments are well thought out, and well obviously correct in terms of pure marketing know-how.

But Thursday is probably a better cycle than Tuesday for EALA, so it would probably mean picking another "th" sounding C&C word... and there isn't another "Th" sounding C&C unit. Buildings or characters, I couldn't be bothered checking...

This would also lose the obvious synergy of tactitus... the deus ex machima of knowledge that we have come to know and love, that would wreck the foundation of the concept of the show. Unless we could find a host we a really pronouced lisp - then anything's possible!

So bottom line - Tactitus Tuesday would have been better!

:)
