The latest ArcAttack electricity performance in AGT, which also involved a female zombie:

It's so sad they were voted off in the competition the next day. :(

To be fair, there is no actual talent involved here, it is 100% props. Anyone with adequate resources could do the same thing.

If you don't consider originality to be a talent, then no.

Originality has nothing to do with talent.

Depends on the talent. A truly talented person should be original and able to create new and exiting things, as opposed to just doing something exceedingly well.

True, talent can lead into originality, but originality does not lead into talent.

There is no talent involved in donning a chainmail suit, fluorescent lights, and standing there waving the lights around. If it weren't for the tesla coils, this would be a truly boring act indeed. Therefore the tesla coils are doing all the work -> tesla coils are machines -> machines have no talent -> there is no talent to be seen here.

In addition to that, that zombie girl can't even pull off a zombie voice, so there isn't even a tiny bit of acting talent to be had from her. I don't know why she even bothered...

It's funny how you people always end up having a discussion about how life works.

So making a painting isn't a talent either? Because all it really is some paint. It's not like the painter has done something, the paint makes the colors.

That is a very poor comparison. Putting paint onto a palette is not talent, but paint does not fly onto canvas by itself.

What they are doing is not painting the picture, they are showing off the picture that they may or may not have actually painted. There is no talent in showing off a finished painting. The act of painting is where the talent exists, and so to would possible talent exist in the construction of the tesla coils or programming them to generate "music". That, however, would be a very boring act... perhaps as boring as watching someone paint a picture.

What makes talent and what makes entertainment are not interchangeable.

Is this act entertainment people would pay to see? Maybe so. Is it talent? No.

Would constructing a tesla coil be talent? Maybe so. Would it be entertainment people would pay to see? No.

Didn't they come up with the melody, the costumes, the idea? Because that's all a painting is as well, an idea.

Well if you would consider it talent for someone bring a painting onto stage and holding it up for the audience to see, than I suppose this would be talent as well. However I would not consider either one to be talent, as it is the creation of the painting/tesla coil that requires the talent.

More specifically, I don't know if they came up with the melody, but I doubt it.

The costumes were nothing special beyond practical.

No they did not invent the idea, the first guy to design a chainmail suit and stand in tesla coil lightning with fluorescent lights is older than any of those people, although since I don't know their back stories, they may personally know or be related to him... but none of that is really relevant.

I never saw anyone else using the Tesla Coil combined with the use of music and theater play. Regardless whether they didn't invent and/or think of all the ideas and objects used in this performance, I still believe the performance itself is a form of art.

Perhaps, but art ≠ talent.

I guess this time I get to post the "videos of the day". ;)

Seeing the discussion and arguments about talent, here's an act that's worth the talent to what most contestants are good at, singing.

For example, this 10-year old opera singer named Jackie Evancho stunned the audience and the judges with her amazing mature voice. She's could be the best opera singer in AGT since Neal E. Boyd (winner of AGT season 3) and Bárbara Padilla (runner-up of AGT season 4). There's a good chance she will win the competition but she's too young to qualify to be in a Las Vegas show (since the winner of AGT not only wins 1 million USD but also gets to perform unlimited shows in Las Vegas).

and also this is more stunning, the cyclist from Talent, Oregon has some stunning talent (yes, the town exists):
