C&C 4 Info from PowerPlay Magazine

Recommended Posts

As we mentioned a few days ago, the latest issue of the Australian gaming magazine PC PowerPlay would be featuring a preview on Command & Conquer 4. Tyrael, a user on the Official C&C Forums, was kind enough to post this quick list of information from the preview.

  • Game is primarily focused around 5v5 objective based multiplayer.
  • Scrin won't be playable, and the Scrin story won't be further explored. However possible Scrin expansion
  • The Forgotten are in, not a major part of the story though. Neutral class on maps that you can fight for experience or can ally with to use forgotten units.
  • Only two playable factions (Nod and GDI), however they have around 80 units right now, but may change as they balance the game (add some, remove some).
  • Upgrades return (missing from RA3).
  • Support class crawlers can fly (The GDI support crawler is actually that large GDI aircraft from the scanned pictures already up)
  • There will be an app for your mobile
  • EA promises that while the C&C universe will go on, C&C4 will complete Kane's story. You will learn who he is, where he comes from, and why he cares so much about Tiberium.
  • Horizontal UI, however it isn't finalised yet.
Even more interesting facts there. Especially the how the Scrin will not be a playable faction. Click here for the original post.

Then I am led to believe this is not an epic conclusion to the tiberium storyline, but a conclusion to the Kane storyline...

If EA promises more tiberium games, then the Scrin storyline still exists to be wrapped up at a later date.

Most of the things sounds pretty nice. I am glad that we won't have to focus on Scrin and there's about 80 different units. This will mean interesting gameplay.

[*]Upgrades return (missing from RA3).

What does this mean?

[*]Support class crawlers can fly (The GDI support crawler is actually that large GDI aircraft from the scanned pictures already up)

Nice!

[*]Horizontal UI, however it isn't finalised yet.

Am I wrong if this means that we get a bottom line bar instead of a sidebar?

It means they are currently undecided if they should go with the interface at the bottom or keep with standard for C&C games and stick on the right side. I know the popular option is to make the UI moveable. Drag and drop to where you want it to be on the screen.

What does this mean?

You know, select a tech center and buy armor upgrade...

RA3 didn't have purchasable upgrades.

I'm guessing experience points will play a part in how you acquire the upgrades.

So its only to playable factions huh. Well that will be slightly refreshing I guess. :P

I might pop into the bookstore tomorrow and grab me a copy... Or just read everything there instead. ^_^

I hope an unplayable Scrin faction means, uber powered Scrin units, leaving ther user with the "OMG, how do we kill that thing!" feeling....

followed by the...

"I can't wait till someone mods it so I can play them!" feeling!

What a pity that Scrin isn't playable... especially it is just introduced in C&C3.

So it's probably the last we will see of Kane... and future story advancements (if any) can revolve around new characters (and Scrin?) But what is Tiberium Universe without Kane, though I have to admit it is not possible for Joe to last like say 12 C&Cs!

Sounds a little promising, but as for the Scrin, they did told us that one day a full invasion force will come, hopefully an expansion pack will do, if there's going to be one.

Perhaps the lack of Scrin is due the cancellation of the Tiberium FPS. Maybe their story was going to be told more in that game and they have decided not to work them back into the C&C 4 storyline just yet and it will be focused on for expansion pack.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to going back to good old GDI VS Nod again :)

Most of these info sound very drooling. If EA gives 80 units per faction(I really hope they ment that :v:v ), then it will be an most epic army of all i have missed in C&C3.

But still, the removal of basebuilding is still a very soar thing to swallow.I really hope EA Consider in re-implenting that, Or at least in the expansion(We want cyborgs,Mech walkers for KW, we got it  )

I'm actually quiet excitied.Especialy the removal of the scrin, is a good thing. But please, i hope they still implant basebuilding.

I agree on that part, Sonic. The storyline does say Kane works with GDI when he sees Earth is on a state of extinction, but hardcore GDI & Nod generals do not agree with each other, so the war between each other still rages on. As for the Scrin, that may come later in an expansion pack.

Like RA3, the Soviets & Allies keep on attacking each other and they don't realize that they left Japan unchecked, and here we are, they attack without warning and the floating island fortresses were built. If the 2 factions would have checked on Japan instead, the floating island fortresses & possibly their entire military would not have been built in the first place.

The game gets even worse.

You're worse than I was... Right, moving on!

I noticed a rather epic sounding Multiplayer Point. 5 Vs 5! Dependant on the Unit cap, this could be nothing short of truly magnificent! The biggest thing that had me addicted to World In Conflict, and in fact had me playing at the competitive ladder level was the sheer fun that it was to kick-ass with a good group of team mates. Clan gaming in that game was something rather special... I'm not a big MP gamer, but if it's up to the quality of what WiC offered, then I'll buy this just for that feature alone... forget the storyline! :P

The app for your mobile has me curious as well... I wonder if it's iPhone only... or are they going to cover apps for Blackberries, nokia's G1's etc. We know nothing of it other than that... But it sounds like an interesting innovation... Unless it's to track online stats for competitive gamers, then it's still a pretty neat idea... but would have to be a lot more comprehensive than some mobile apps I've used. Facebook being one of them, that's just terrible!

Everything else seems a pretty standard and somewhat expectable affair. I'm not going to judge on the the canon specifics. I'm here out of curiosity for a new RTS game, not Command & Conquer ;)

Sweet! Im a little bummed about the Scrin but taking them out would only make sense. One thing im wondering, are they going to do the unit profiles like they did for RA3? Those were pretty cool.

Shocking!

8v8...6v6...now 5v5? whats up with the dev team???

Interesting to see them focusing more on GDI and Nod storyline this time round. ALways kinda knew the Scrin were kinda out of place in C&C3.

ok lets be realistic here, Kane (joe) won a cancer once, he is the best for NOD but he is still human, and he needs some rest.(for now)

i just hope he leaves a son or something for further games!

now for the scrin part this is convenient for 2 reasons,

1) they just dont have enough time to do all 3 function balanced and playable right now

2)in the last story they are gone and they will return in the future, so as you said they are gona be in an expansion pack in order to sell more because expansion is very tipical in our days to have just few maps, few new units, a small skirmish and upgrades.

i hope they are doing something smart here as Blizzard did with SC2 spliting it in 3 parts, and they will give you in each part the campaign for each side.

now imagine

CnC4 (nod & GDI)

Command & Conquer 4

Tiberium Twilight

CnC4 (nod & gdi & scrin)

Command & Conquer 4

Scrin's Invasion

sounds better sells better.- ;)^_^

i am totally supporting that idea with the EALA.

I guess I made up my mind. I'm pretty excited now. I have a feeling that this game is going to be very epic. I'm actually really glad that they're getting rid of the Scrin. Straight up GDI vs. Nod is the way to go.

Noes!, TiberiUM just doesn't sound right when using the word before something. It's a grammatical error in my opinion.

Yeah all the kiddos will probably say Tiberium Wars 2 or something lame like it.
