I see the Z is still bold in this new font...

I don't see it. Looks the same size as the other characters.

Compare the base of the C with the base of the Z, and the diagonal slope in the N with the one in the Z.

Is this going to be a permanent change? Especially the font?

Permanent yes. At least until the next major redesign. But that not planned for any time soon. But this is the new font.

If you want it, download from http://www.fontspace.com/zdeněk-gromnica/groovy-fast

I think its more of an optical illusion, the N and the Z are fatter than the C. But it could be a minor bug in the way fonts are handled in Paint Shop Pro. Could be the font file. Take a look at this link.....

I'm not to fussed by it.

If you don't care, than I don't care. I just thought it was odd since the former font had the same discrepancy.

The trouble with free typefaces is that sometimes they have good intention, but don't realize how much you have to do to get a typeface looking finished, so little things appear...

Sonic, if you ever need a commercial typeface, or me to do artwork with a commercial typeface. I have, at work that is, pretty much very typeface family that is used in advertising and media (TV and Print) :)

You can see the difference in the font characters in this image. Look the capital "C" compared to capital "Z".

The cursor looks nice. I preferred the old font better though.

Second that. I was worrying that I was the only member who misses the old Pepsi font.

Since you started that discussion, I now see it everytime I look at the logo D:

Its was due for something new. That Pepsi style font had been in use for nearly 5 years.

Well, personally, I feel that the old Pepsi font is something unique to CNCNZ, and makes CNCNZ truly... well, CNCNZ.

Say aye if you agree what I said. :)

Can someone show off that old Pepsi font?

It's that very font you see on my current banners, images, and some areas around the main site and forum.

Thanks Malev, you mean the old font in Sonic's banner and yours too right? I know it but I didn't know it's five years old, So when Sonic said it's been like this for five years I thought you're talking about another logo!

Yup. The same font has been around for quite a while. But still, I honestly prefer this Pepsi font.

Well I know it's probably a lot of work, effort and time behind the scenes where Sonic had been probably experimenting and trying out various ways to update the site logo. But I kind of find the font change to this new groovy fast font is too... radical? I don't know. I'm not complaining. If there's an option for suggestion I may suggest something subtle, maybe italicized Square721 BdEx BT font?

For example...

Please don't get me wrong, I'm happy for the new changes, but I thought maybe I can help by coming up with another constructive suggestion if you don't mind. :)

Trust me I tried many different fonts. I guess its ok to show these very rough concepts from awhile ago. Some of these don't have any colours added, just quick ideas pieced together to see if anything works. Your lucky, normally I never publicly show stuff like this.

From early May....

Late August, using the crosshairs idea, before gben suggested the selection cursor....

The first concept of your different CNCNZ logo in black font looks much better for a recent logo, Sonic, except it would have been some recoloring. However, the Pepsi font used for the CNCNZ logo is groovier than this new font for the updated logo.

By the way, where can I get the Pepsi font with both upper and lower-case letters? I cannot find them in the Internet since those free Pepsi fonts I got have all upper-cases.

It's not a selection cursor, it's the RA move cursor :P

I'm happy with font I've chosen for the new logo. There will be no changes. At least not for the foreseeable future.

It never had such an animation... the only animation the RA move cursor has is that the green bars glow bright in an inwards motion.

Ha Another juicy thread I missed...

Generally I'm not enthusiastic for change (glances at the same avatar I'm had since 2004) but websites do need to change to keep ideas fresh etc. So late in August Sonic showed the staff his cross-hairs design and I thought maybe that the cross-hairs design looked more like a FPS logo than a RTS logo. I suggested he swap for a mouse cursor, he asked for an example, and the RA cursors was the first one I found. I think thematically a true C&C icon would have made sense - but the current model is recognisable and effective. I like the end result.

Although a subtle animation to the cursor would have been fun to attempt for the main page. I assume though every attempt would just come across as gauche. Perhaps a lighting effect rather than true motion.

Funnily enough I did notice the font discrepancy mention. For instance the s in forums looks like it's coloured wrong... darker than the other letters. But perhaps that's the charm of the odd-ball site that is CNCNZ.com.

Although I like/prefer Mal's pepsi look, I think it doesn't match the selection cursor as well as Sonic's.

Anyway - Welcome back to the Community Veteran.

May we argue about webdesign, logos and fonts for another decade.
