Command & Conquer Arena Trailer

Recommended Posts

Our friends at the French C&C fan site, C&C Saga, managed to acquire a trailer for the now cancelled Command & Conquer Arena. Apparently some of the visuals in this trailer were reused in Command & Conquer 4.

Points of interest from this trailer. The Battlecast Primetime logo can be seen and the Scrin were to be part of this game. Other than that, there really is no point in analysing this trailer to deeply because Command & Conquer Arena can be added to the list of other cancelled Command & Conquer games we have learnt about in recent times.

This was probably the EA's movement on changing games (particularly C&C as a RTS) to sports.

They made a fatal mistake there.

Anyways the visual trailer is an eye candy.

Another canceled game, but good trailer though.

Yes, it is very nice looking, but I couldn't help getting the impression that we were better off with it getting cancelled.

Although I'm not sure it would have been worse than C&C4...

Why is that KW didnt have these kind of cinematic? Why they didnt make this kind of stuff instead of hiring over-hyped actors for RA3?! :(

Got to agree, all that famous actors really drain the budget unnecessarily. Because we know CGI is damn expensive compare to live action work. It is a huge blunder but that's the EALA execs' orders to all of us after all. Money money money! Why can't they just build their own CGI rooms, that will create jobs and will increase the quality of the product.

Damn again, we really wish those were the CGIs meant for C&C3 & KW. We nearly got nothing back in those games, yeap, they did hide or scrap those CGIs before the release of those games. :(

I, personally, would have liked this was released. It would definitely more interesting than C&C 4. :P

Obviously that's bcs EA bosses believe in the critics when they bash Michael Bay... Hey! That's a great idea! Why not get Michael Bay in charge of the cutscenes of C&C? I mean, that would be awesome, sure he never make movies which such complex plots, but he really knows how to make a nice scene full of impresive SFX, and in the end you can always tell the story with the ingame engine while leaving the cutscenes for the CGI, that may also force EA to make at least for this time realistic and well scaled models

Command & conquer 4 should have been cancelled not command & conquer Arena.

Ah, Arena has the logo of the game for which you would get to participate in a beta if you bought C&C4. Another loose end tied up.

The execs are all but brainless a**holes anyways! Money is all what they want.

-----------

Well, Kane Nash, the live action casting in C&C4 does look a little bit more like old school Westwood times (low budget) to me, except they were poorly executed and directed. And it became even worse when CGI was not widely used. Then it became even a lot worse again when the gameplay was a terrible blunder, thus earning themselves a "Least improved sequel" & "Most Disappointing Game" awards coming from Gamespot. Money money money!

I hope the next C&C is a total reboot, and hopefully bring back the old Westwood times (Original gameplay, good movie scenes & stories, TONS of CGI, etc..), no more rushing deadlines like the Call of Duty franchise (One title per year to those who don't know about it).

Quality, man, it's the law made by gamers and it's similar to gravity made by Isaac Newton. If you defy quality, it'll obviously fall and be defied. SC2 obeyed it really well! And we know it became a giant success, one of the best moments in 2010 (If you don't count on the lack of LAN issue)!

Nominations. C&C4 did not win in either category.

So C&C Arena was originally going to be an expansion to C&C3 or an entirely new game? The game looks like it's trying to appeal to casual gamers - "arena" sounds like it's an online tournament, and there doesn't seem to be structures. Probably revolved around a few units and upgrades for doing well. C&C4 probably ended up inheriting some of the game's aspects - since it, too, was kind of like an "arena" game - a point system, no bases, and just a few units battling it out for nodes.

Still, this kind of game would've sounded better as an expansion pack rather than the C&C finale. Westwood had Sole Survivor for example.

C&C isn't really what I would consider a game that's meant for a competitive environment, in terms of E-Sports. I mean, all sports need to have huge amounts of adrenaline and fast pacing... But C&C games can end up being slow and tedious at times. That's not a bad thing (certainly a good break from Starcraft's fast pace), but it just won't cut it as a sport. Plus, I have the feeling that if this game came out... It would have spelled doom (with the help of the abomination C&C4) for the franchise. Although I'm frustrated with the franchise as of late, I certainly wouldn't want it to die either.

EDIT:

It's interesting to note that there's no real official info about this game. Just rumors, leaks, and other negligible news.

I just wish it would to.

And I was also talking about it with Kane Nash on the whole part.

But right now the new game is behind closed doors, much being in Area 51. So we can't figure out what they're doing next, I just wish the franchise is completely buried. Or if the secret development is quite as much as Starcraft 2 during their startup phase during Frozen Throne which no one knows about it until months or years later.

trailers and "cancels" like that its hard not to comment :P

guys the EA didnt invest in this monay. to make an CnC MMO you need a lot of investment and a LOT of GOOD Talanted Employes to work on that!

they didnt want to give those for 2 reasons

1)they didnt had very good earnings from the previous cnc titles and they didnt want to hire new passionate pople to the existed EALA team! the team was only getting smaller and smaller per project! cuts cuts cuts! undtill everyone left! how the hell are you gona work when the boss tells you we are not going well plz stay if you want but your future is propably...desided?

2)in order to go live with a massive MMO RTS ike CnC (that i think besides Starcraft and Warcraft and WarHammer40.000) is the only well known title to enter this party,

if you are gona go for this party you have to be extreamly sure that you are not there for the 3rd or 4th or2nd place! you are there for the 1st place and thats to HIT WOW!

so the question probably raised was? "hey can we hit this unstapable Blizzard company and learn from their step and make our own MMO?" "can we be at the top of them with what they offer to invest on us? personel and resources?"

-the answer was probably a big "NO"! not now at least! so they cancelled! the guys who made that trailer they make sujestions to the board and they try to make them belive that they have to invest on their team money and resource to go live with that, BUT the Board DIDNT want to spent so much in time like this (financial crises and crap like that)

and they also used the poor sales of cnc4 as excuses to say the final NO!

this is the logic sure its an assumsions i belive, but yet again do you think its too far from what may happen? (i said lots of common assumsions in the past that proven to be true in the end! even though some former good EALA employes were triying to "cover" the EA company. you could smell it in the air the disapointment the team had, the doom that was surruninding the CnC franshize! thats why finally was dismental!

a fracking GOOD reset is whats to be done! not to the story but to the CnC Title! Generals is still untouched but mostly Tiberium universe and Red Alert (if it goes back to its original serious routes has a serious percent of success!) its not easy to come up with new and fresh ideas that will not fruck up the title....

but why the hell go with an experament like cnc4 and not keep the damn cnc3 kw formula like starcraft did in starcraft2! they didnt reinvented the weal and they only imporved to some points and sells like HELL! if a product is good YOU dont have to alter it by says stupid word like "ivolve" or evolutions!

frack Evolution! cnc was the first RTS (after dune) and should keep on been a damn RTS not any kind of stupid Hyprid like cnc4 or warhammer!

dont you see that those failed! and the poor old recipy of RTS in starcraft2 keeps kicking asses????

i mean whats wrong with you!!!! stop making hybrids and crap like those you are killing the category of RTS. if you want to make an MMO make only an MMO dont make a RTS MMO and maybe half racing elements and some FirstPerson Shotter elements and some diablo elements in that! thats not a damn game thats gona be a FAILURE for sure!

the perfect shape of the wheel is ROUND not SQUARE or anything else! for decades tire companies are trying to make better tires they didnt made new kinds of wheels because they thought it will an evolution of the weal!

some things after a certain point are PERFECT! the RTS gerne must be kept PURE and CLEAN like StarCraft2 Did because its PERFECT!

and finally for the 100000000000000 time invest money to Make money! what kind of educational level do you have to get to understand that dear "CEOs" and "Bosses" at the the EA!?

You guys are just beating a dead a horse here. We have been over and over this stuff in the past so many times before. C&C 4, C&C Arena, Project Comacho and all the canalled games are products of an era that is now behind us. During the development of these products and of course C&C 3, Kane's Wrath, RA3 etc... the team at the time were given X amount of dollars and X amount time to complete each one. In the case of C&C 4 this was done with even less time and money. The new management and new team at EALA are no longer restricted by this. As result we should see better games in the future.

we are forced to go round and round the same old "boring" talks (yes) but its the only think left when the same mistakes keep on going.....

the same think about a new team and a new manager was told and before! to brink hope back to the community....to some point the did, but after each failure new promises are very very hard to believe!

p.s offtopic now that i see your avatar, i remembered that the latest Big Bang Theory episode was so fanny :P

There will always be ups and downs. I mean, Generals did seem like a huge put off, but hey, they quickly got back up with Zero Hour anyway. And it got better up until RA3. I mean, RA3 was kinda good, but the change in the resource system was kind of... Questionable. C&C4 was, well, just terrible. But then again, in game development, miracles do happen. If they don't, Command and Conquer, Doom, Starcraft, and all the other classics wouldn't exist; think about it, they were made during a time of limited resources, limited markets, and limited manpower (even Bungie made classics with just a team of two people and NO PUBLISHER), and that takes a miracle to pull off at any rate.

So here's hoping we see another one of those miracles take place at EA, and revive this dying franchise which, for all its recent failings, we still LOVE.

Well Sonic, yeah, you can say the new team under JVC will not be under restriction by our moronic executives. But let's face it, the EALA execs are kings and they are the servants. Blizzard on the other hand is BOTH king & servant, so they have access to near limitless resources and in the end, they come up with a very good game while at the same time, spending good money and earn good money. That's why I still have my doubts if the execs are going to provide them with tons of resources to make a game with similar high quality to SC2. If we compare C&C3 with SC2, imagine both of them are released at the same time, C&C3's quality is not even close with SC2 since it's missing so many features (CGI, high quality models, syncing storylines, etc..) compare to its predecessors.

But well, like Johnny said "on each failure, new promises are very very hard to believe!" And you know what the betrayed fans say, "I'll believe it (a brand new high quality C&C game) only when I see it."

Ja, no ****. The point here is, that they made some rather huge mistakes, which costs EA money themselves.

guys in EA they have executives in hight places or in the board that have no idea what agame or a RTS is!

how the hel do you excpet someone to guide a team or pay for them what they need or give them advices when he doesnt know a **** about the product!!!!!

Blizzard CEO are

1st Programmers/Game developers

2ndly gamers!

3rd and then Managers and leaders!

Blizzard after Activation policy wasnt so nice you can tell, and mystakes and small rushes where made with b.net 2.0 but they try very hard with patches like 1.20 to make everything as polished and complete as possible!!!! do they want to make money? sure everybody does but they are ****ing making games 1 because the love making games and THEN because they will get paid for that!!! thats something the EA will never have as long as its a different company for publishing that just buys studios for developing!!!!

Blizzard CAN make mistakes and Blizzard DO listen to fans (like diablo3 first wow styling that got the art director fired) they also do stoborn things like the always online in sc2 per month (thank god for the sc2allin1 launcher) no chat channel in b.net 2.0? and other mistakes BUT they fill out the blanks with patches and users TRUST Blizzard and Bilives in it just because for the last 12+ years it keeps supporting and updating its Games! no other company in the world ever do this and dont tell me this is not Passion and its money cause you will be ignorent at least!!!!!! when on the other hand EALA made few quick bug to make their BETA games Retail and thats all then they are DEAD! no support crappy servers etc! how the hell should we trust them?

i am a trully huge fan and my work with EALA in the past had proven that, and thats why i am screaming!!!! because i love the series and the developers who lost their jobs!

passion will get you to the money, But Money will never buy passion!!!!!!!!

p.s Red Alert 3 was for me the best polished game EALA ever DID! period! both in detail and performance and gameplay, music, LAN and patch support (for some time) i am so proud of been part of the credits in this game because its a really nice and not so rushed!

ps2 now that Blizzard choose the no LAN path EALA or what ever they will be called have a super ACE in their slives! give free unlimited LAN support to people! this will increase its sales for lan parties!

Awesome trailer, except for the last few seconds where you see an audience applauding. That's just awkward and doesn't really fit in the C&C universe.

I liked the trailer... I thinked arena would have been better than what C&C4 turned out to be.

(Boo to the boring thread that resulted though... put your rants into a faq and stop hurting my eyes with walls of text about nothing.)
