PurpleGaga27 40 Posted April 26, 2011 (edited) Guess what they both have in common, the same Source engine (but different versions) and the same 96% rating in Metacritic, tying for the best PC game ever. As for me, the original Half-Life is always better to several conditions: sound effects, music and the right type of gameplay. But when it comes to content, action, graphics, customization and longevity, Grand Theft Auto IV owns all. GTA4 was supposed to be the best PC game ever until it all goes down with the number one issue that was fixed in the latest patch regardless of high system requirements, graphic performance. Thus under the latest version of GTA4, I would give that game a 97% rating. The first time GTA4 was released on the PC, the price is just right for $49.99 USD although I thought it was one of the longest 3D PC games ever. No other game will beat its longevity of gameplay none other than GTA4. Edited April 26, 2011 by zocom7 Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted April 26, 2011 They're not even remotely similar types of games. There's really no comparison at all. Not a single bit. Share this post Link to post
Malovolpe 3 Posted April 26, 2011 You can't compare Portal to Half-Life. You definitely cannot compare either game to GTA4 which is a open world sandbox game. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted April 26, 2011 Portal. Why? Because I don't like that Freeman guy with his silly crowbar, thats why! Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted April 26, 2011 I'm not a big fan of either game, but I liked Portal better Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted April 26, 2011 Because I don't like that Freeman guy with his silly crowbar, thats why! Freeman's crowbar is the best FPS weapon ever! And Freeman himself... he doesn't speak a word in any of the games. He doesn't even moan when shot! Do you want that or a pitiful excuse of a hero that screams every time he loses 1 armour point? Luk3us 63 Posted April 26, 2011 Do you want that or a pitiful excuse of a hero that screams every time he loses 1 armour point? In a word? Yes. I can't stand a silent protagonist, it just feels weird during cut scenes and 'conversations' with other NPCs. Crysis 2 is a good recent example, he doesn't say **** the entire game, minus the ending. The best part, is that no one else finds it unusual, which is disturbingly amusing. Nmenth 291 Posted April 26, 2011 I can't stand a silent protagonist What do you think about Link, do you hate him too? Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted April 26, 2011 Never played the Zelda series, so I have no opinion. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted April 26, 2011 What? Never played Zelda? How can you live with yourself? Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted April 26, 2011 I haven't either. Any console game, for that matter (except Battle City on a NES emulator). Not even Pong. I'm satisfied with PC stuff. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted April 26, 2011 Oh, come on. Try to beat C&C, SC/WC, Civ, Thief, NOLF, CoD... I'm really happy with a PC, thank you very much. Share this post Link to post
Guest Stevie_K Posted April 26, 2011 Another wtf thread Won't begin to argue how lame it is to compare the mentioned games, but if I had to choose I'd say Half-Life 2, and that's simply because it features a lot of crowbarintheface and nasty aliens The storyline and acting performance in Portal 2 is much more entertaining though, which is probably why I already changed my mind since I wrote the above, well, nevermind. Luk3us 63 Posted April 27, 2011 Even Value doesn't like Half Life 2, they keep doing other projects and ignore the 'supposed' episode 3. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted April 27, 2011 Even Value doesn't like Half Life 2 Portal exists in the Half-Life universe though, so they can't hate it too much... Share this post Link to post
PurpleGaga27 40 Posted April 27, 2011 Even Value doesn't like Half Life 2, they keep doing other projects and ignore the 'supposed' episode 3. If you integrate Portal and Half-Life, you'll get Gordon Freeman armed with weapons, a gravity gun, a portal gun and his allies of his old buddies and new robot friends. That will be epic. Gordon Freeman should deserve to have that portal gun. Share this post Link to post
Nyerguds 102 Posted April 27, 2011 Freeman's crowbar is the best FPS weapon ever! And Freeman himself... he doesn't speak a word in any of the games. They kinda parody that fact in the Portal 2 beginning, where the player is asked to speak and gets a game message saying "press space to speak". Space obviously makes the player jump, and not speak. The behaviour is then promptly attributed to cryo-sleep related brain damage Even Value doesn't like Half Life 2, they keep doing other projects and ignore the 'supposed' episode 3. Value? PurpleGaga27 40 Posted April 27, 2011 Value? It's Valve. I believe Luk3us made a typo for that word. I just found out after reading the walkthrough, Portal 2 has nine chapters instead of another 30 testing levels. Thus, it's still a shorter game than Half-Life 2. Share this post Link to post

Luk3us 63 Posted April 28, 2011 Yes, typo.... I should get Portal 2 at some point, but I don't know anyone on PC who has it. And I'm sure not playing with any of my PS3 friends on their, 'inferior' console... My infect my computer with its, 'horrible'ness. Quite cool about that whole cross platform support though. Guest Stevie_K Posted April 28, 2011 I'd play it with you. Problem is that I live on the exact opposite site of the planet, so when I have the time to play, you are probably busy making breakfast and hurry to work Share this post Link to post
Gben 20 Posted May 1, 2011 The one thing I didn't like in Portal 2 was when it was most like Half Life 2... (cue mild spoiler for details) I was disconected from emmersion, and struggled to get back into it... when we were dumped at the bottom of the shaft and had to climb back up. The colouring, and environments were too similar to Valve's other games. Although I certainly enjoyed the story as I went back up. Yet I've only got 40% of the achievements so I can't wait to see what I missed. The best part of the experience was not actually being suprised every step of the way... voice actors, new ingame mechanics etc. Worth avoiding all teasers and promos for the game. The main gripe with the game remains motivation... why was I doing this again... was I the same person... etc. Then I saw the webcomic prequel in the extras and it was explained somewhat. But personally I like games with a mute protaganist. Share this post Link to post
CCHyper 3 Posted May 1, 2011 Well, actually i think the deep underground chapters where supposed to look like HL, mostly because of the time frame when both exist is pretty close. I don't remember much about the story of HL games but it worked very well to me. Enjoyed Portal 2 Share this post Link to post
