Sonic 296 Posted June 4, 2014 Another month has gone by, so its time for a new poll. The new poll looks at one the major news item from the past month, What will you do when the GameSpy C&C servers close at the end of June? Will you stop playing, keep it strictly single player, perhaps try an alternative like Hamachi or GameRanger. To vote in this poll you need to be on the main page of our site, and cast your vote in the poll box on the right side bar. You can also check the the current results in the Poll Archives. And, as always, don't forget to share any feedback or comments about this poll as well. Here's a quick look at our previous poll, Are you still actively playing Tiberium Alliances? This one was a close one, 42% have quit playing Tiberium Alliances. There are very low numbers for the people who still play it. Full results can be found in the Poll Archives. Plok 327 Posted June 4, 2014 Chose other alternatives, as I really prefer Evolve, but GameRanger will also do fine. Share this post Link to post
Existor 15 Posted June 4, 2014 For example, Dawn of War 1 recieved a patch after 5 years, that moved entire game multiplayer to Steam servers. Sadly, that sucky Electronic Arts will never do something similar 1 Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) Bungie did a server separation kit/patch for Halo 1 last week! Edited June 4, 2014 by Plokite_Wolf 1 Share this post Link to post

Sadly, that sucky Electronic Arts will never do something similar This I do not know ^^^, but I wish EA could move all of their recent C&C games to Origin. What are the chances that EA could release a C&C3 patch 1.10, KW patch 1.03, RA3 patch 1.13 and C&C4 patch 1.04 just for MP server(s) changes? Remaining bug fixes that "CrazyGDIFan123" did in Gamereplays for both C&C3 and KW will still go un-noticed by EA. Edited June 4, 2014 by zocom7 Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) This I do not know ^^^, but I wish EA could move all of their recent C&C games to Origin. C&C4 patch 1.04 C&C 4 is not part of this shutdown, it runs on its own server. just for MP server(s) changes? Remaining bug fixes that "CrazyGDIFan123" did in Gamereplays for both C&C3 and KW will still go un-noticed by EA. CGF never fixed TW. Edited June 4, 2014 by Plokite_Wolf Share this post Link to post
AZ-Stalker 88 Posted June 4, 2014 Hamachi is a terrible alternative, Tunngle is way more popular and unlike the former it doesnt leave crap around your computer like scraps of it's adapter's code and what not that clog things up even after you remove the software. Hamachi's glory days were over a long time ago, last time I checked they had a 5 person limit on networks. This wasn't thought through very well if you ask me... other alternatives it is then. Tore 33 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) Hamachi is not meant for gaming it is just a straight up "easy to use" VPN service. I don't like Tunngle as last time I tried it it was filled with advertisements. If I'd play through some "gaming" VPN network I'd use Evolve or Gameranger. Nyerguds 102 Posted June 5, 2014 "What will you do when the GameSpy C&C servers close at the end of June?" CnCNet? Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) Wish it could support all these games Edited June 5, 2014 by Plokite_Wolf Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 5, 2014 "What will you do when the GameSpy C&C servers close at the end of June?" CnCNet? Is that a possibility? Can CnCNet be adapted to support the likes of Generals, Tiberium Wars etc? Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) Taking into account the complexity of the servers' technology, I'm afraid that it's not possible without a load of work, at least in the capacity that it is supported now. Edited June 5, 2014 by Plokite_Wolf Share this post Link to post
zunnie 3 Posted June 5, 2014 Me and a few from MPF are using Tungle ( http://www.tunngle.net/index.php?l=en ) Very nice stuff. Share this post Link to post
Banshee 28 Posted June 6, 2014 A much better solution should be online before the end of this month. Just be a bit patient and wait. Stay tuned at CNCNZ.com and other C&C fan sites. You won't regret this decision . Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted June 6, 2014 To clarify... an alternative is being worked on that would, if successful, mimic the service GameSpy gave thus far, along with buddy lists and matchmaking. This is still in research and early development phases, but a rough form for Generals, Zero Hour, Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath is expected (but not guaranteed) to be released some time before the main server shuts down. Red Alert 3 would come later. More info on this here: http://www.gamereplays.org/kaneswrath/portals.php?show=page&name=commandandconquer-alternative-hosting-new-server Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 7, 2014 I was not aware this was to be public knowledge at this stage. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted June 7, 2014 It's being explained bit by bit. We're just reporting our achievements so far as was promised earlier, but we're trying to avoid formal announcements. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 7, 2014 I'm confused by your post there Plokite_Wolf. What's with "we're" and "ours". I don't know all the details about this yet but I have a fair idea of what people from GameReplays.org are doing. From my understanding other parties are just as much a part of this. I've been invited to be involved, but I really can't offer all that much, not really my area the whole MP scene. Anyway, I hope your not self-inflating your role in this. I guess GameReplays.org ask a lot of their senior artists Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted June 7, 2014 Anyway, I hope your not self-inflating your role in this. I guess GameReplays.org ask a lot of their senior artists No, I'm not, or at least I don't want to. To be frank with you, my official role of a senior artist in itself doesn't have as many tasks, but I tend to keep myself busy in other fields. In fact, everyone from our staff, regardless of one's role, was invited to assist in this project in any way possible. Since this is still a phase when one has to be really careful what to say to avoid announcing too much (so people don't get all too disappointed if this fails completely or partially for some reason), I did send the content of my post for revision to our TW/KW admin before hitting the Post button. I always get corrected when a crucial error is made, that's why I send such things for verification. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 7, 2014 Thanks for the explanation there. I wasn't intending to come off as a smart ass in my last post, reading it back I kind of felt I was though. All I know at this stage is things are to be kept on the down low for now, an announcement of a more official capacity will be coming next week sometime. Share this post Link to post
neojames82 6 Posted June 9, 2014 You forgot to mention in the Tiberium Alliances poll that "Never Played It" got 48%, which shows a lot of people don't give much a crap about the game (not that I blame them). Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted June 10, 2014 You forgot to mention in the Tiberium Alliances poll that "Never Played It" got 48%, which shows a lot of people don't give much a crap about the game (not that I blame them). Its 47% if you want to get specific. I don't find find the "Never Played It" vote uprising really, Tiberium Alliances appeals to a niche market. Share this post Link to post
Nmenth 291 Posted June 10, 2014 It doesn't really mean much anyway. You can't honestly say a game is bad if you've never played it. Share this post Link to post
