We've just received word that Jim Vessella, former EA Los Angeles producer (followers of Battlecast Primetime have seen him repeatedly) and current developer on C&C Rivals, has made an official statement on the OpenRA website about EA's interest in making a PC Command & Conquer game, which includes the possibility for remastering classic titles for the upcoming 25th anniversary of the series. Here is the entirety of his post:

Fellow Command & Conquer fans,

My name is Jim Vessella, and I’m a Producer at Electronic Arts. Ten years ago I had the pleasure of being on the production team for Command & Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3, along with being the Lead Producer on Kane’s Wrath. During those years, some of my favorite moments were interacting with our passionate community, whether at our onsite Community Summits, on the forums, or while attending various events such as Gamescom.

As most of you may know, we recently announced Command & Conquer: Rivals, a mobile game set in the Command & Conquer universe. Following the reveal of Rivals, we heard you loud and clear: the Command & Conquer community also wants to see the franchise return to PC. And as a fan of C&C for over 20 years, I couldn’t agree more. With that in mind we’ve been exploring some exciting ideas regarding remastering the classic PC games, and already have the ball rolling on our first effort to celebrate the upcoming 25th Year Anniversary.

We are eager to hear your feedback to help influence our current thoughts for PC and what comes next. Over the next few weeks we’ll be talking to fans in a variety of ways. In the meantime, please share your thoughts here on the OpenRA forums.

As a long time C&C fan and developer, I am just as passionate about the C&C franchise as you are, and look forward to hearing your thoughts as they help us shape the future of C&C at EA!

Thanks!
Jim Vessella

EDIT: There's also a Reddit thread going on with Jim Vessella answering some questions and concerns.

I made a duplicate thread here. We first got the message that he was interested in making an announcement back in late August. Very glad to see it finally happen! He is active in the comments on the C&C subreddit and has already confirmed no microtransactions!

It's not too common for companies like EA to talk to fan sites first (subreddit and OpenRA, were there any others?) so I'd already call that a good sign.

Edit: APOC apparently is still alive and well.

**imitating Jason Bender's reaction** VESSSSELLLLLLA!!!

A C&C95, C&C Tiberian Sun and a C&C3 remaster would be nice (for a start), but now I wish for a new C&C game just like Starcraft II with a continuing service (the one thing that 99% of all RTS games do not have) by having the fans releasing more mods, maps, custom missions and arcade stuff integrated to the game and any new DLC as well.

Feast your eyes on this:

Taken from the OpenRA site. Nice to have such a solid confirmation because honestly after only hearing it once I was still skeptical.

A Tiberian Twilight remaster retconned remake would be ideal.

No. The game that will be remastered will be..... Command & Conquer Sole Survivor, of course, due to its amazing sales and outstanding success with the public.

LOL.

Nah, I don't think Sole Survivor is getting a remaster, more like a remake on a different C&C MOBA with Battle Royale mode and that would have been EA's original way to revive C&C. This time the good and respected EA devs will listen to what C&C fans want.

So a 2020 release? Assuming nothing deters them from completing the remaster, I'm excited to see it! It would be nice to introduce the newer generation of players to the proper Command & Conquer series, and it's nice for us current and older fans to relive the classics in high-def.

I have to wonder if they will reach out to Joe Kucan for some promotional material to further hype the remasters. It would be a smart business move in my opinion.

Yeah he works for Sony's Santa Monica studio now as a Senior Social media and marketing. He was a huge influence on God of War's Global Marketing campaign strategy. This of which he won an award for the best official game website godofwar.com. Also he's been the driving force for God of War Mechandise and has been responsible for making it Playstation's most profitable brand.

To say Aaron Kaufman is riding high is a bit of an understatement. He's become a behemoth in the world of Sony's Playstation Marketing. As a result he could pretty much go for any job involving online marketing in the entire games industry and they'd snatch him right up!

So that means that if EA would ever ask him back he'd probably just point and laugh :P

Jim made a small update again on the subreddit. Nothing too substantial but it's nice that he's keeping in touch.

He has also done something similar few days ago on OpenRA forums and on CnCNet forums. No big deal. I guess he just want people to keep the discussion flowing.
