F15pilotX 4 Posted August 17, 2005 It just says that god dosnt control what we do hes just the creator. You're right, he doesn't, but he could if he chose to (Then His purpose of creating us, to be praised by and have fellowship with us would be destroyed, as: who wants to be praise by people who they force to) Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted August 17, 2005 either way, every religion on this planet has a lot to improve on. No one has everything right. I was born and raised Catholic, and I think Pope John Paul II was one of the greatest leaders this planet has ever seen, btu I really question some points if the Catholic faith itself. And other faiths too. The olny "religion" I find almost no flaws in is the Force. And if it wasnt made up by George, then maybe I would believe it. But its not real. Neither are any of our religions. At least not totally real. Share this post Link to post
Acerz492 1 Posted August 17, 2005 I wouldn't say the Force and the Jedi/Sith orders are religions per se.. Maybe (to be blunt) a cult following that happens to prove itself time and time again in the SW universe. But you're right about our real-world religions having alot to improve themselves on. And Pope John-Paul II was a very good leader, no denying that. (Edit:  1111 posts!) Back on topic now. Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted August 17, 2005 But you're right about our real-world religions having alot to improve themselves on. (Edit:  1111 posts) Okay, lets say that there was only one right religion (bear w/me). Then what would be the point of the other religions "improving"??? there wouldnt Also, that would mean the other religions are actually harming people by drawing them to false beliefs  That's what Protestants (Which I am one of) believe    Just another view to consider Share this post Link to post
Acerz492 1 Posted August 18, 2005 But that the fact still remains that not one religion is correct, as it's left up to people's interpretation. You say that what I said implies that religion is being harmful to people, right (Fundamentalism comes to mind here)? The fact that it's all up to someone's interpretation means that people will, can and do take things too seriously. Therefore in a sense religion does harm people who take things too seriously, and end up blowing themselves up on a bus or something. Hehe, I respect that it's your point of view mate. I know all too well the Prostestant's viewpoints.  Share this post Link to post

Guest Rabbit Posted August 19, 2005 (not to interrrupt) I decided to try something new... I am going to try to experience all of the different types of religions for 6 months... I have already been through christianity, and now I am going to try atheism... then I will try being a wiccan, then a Jew, then a black christian (they actually do things different sometimes..., I'm not trying to be racist), then I will try being a muslim, and a buhdhist (sorry about misspellings) and I will tell you all what I think is my favorite... (aside from my own) Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted August 19, 2005 Umm.. That is a unusual thing to do... I don't think it will work out really but yeah.... Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted August 19, 2005 Wow, trying all of that religions will took you sometime. To understand a religion, you must whorship it for years. It's something that I clearly won't do, it's rather stupid to me. And I'm impressed that this thread still alive  Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted August 19, 2005 That is why I don't think his little plan will work.. But if he wants too its all good... Share this post Link to post
J-Fire_Man 0 Posted August 19, 2005 Even if he have expereience all of the religions, I don't think that he can truly experience the real teaching of a religin like the buddhist (that's if he want to be a bald monk, hehehe...). Just whorship the religion that you beleive the most. Share this post Link to post
Waraddict 0 Posted August 19, 2005 I think some of you are getting quite confused about religion, first of all, athiesim makes less sense then religion, religion is the belief in a creator that obviously does not lie in his own creation, that is, we're not going to find any true physical evidence of God in the universe except the universe itself, Athiesim insists that if there was a creator, there must be evidence, but the only damn possible evidence of God IS the Universe! Not only that, but Athiesim does not help any better in keeping peace better then any religion either, most Atheists are uncomprimising on their views just as much as believers and they never stop at the chance to 'convert' just like any religion. Atheism's existence is pointless, people should atleast believe in a God. As for this problem that there can only be one true religion, it's not a problem, its the basics of any belief that whatever you don't believe in you consider wrong. What IS the problem is how people bother themselves to judge other people's beliefs, humanity is diverse, we have to except that. Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted August 19, 2005 You cant be in all the religions for six months at a time and truly mean it. Yo ucant just hop around like that. You will never expirience it fully. That and half the religions wont let you go jumpin around like that. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted August 20, 2005 Atheism's existence is pointless, people should atleast believe in a God. Pff... That is like believing in Santa Claus.. You grow out of it... Its just some people never grow up. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted August 20, 2005 Just whorship the religion that you beleive the most. I think my true problem is, I really don't know what to worship... I am just a little bugged with god right now... (the christian god) cause when you pray really hard, and close your eyes, he seems to be the one to ignore you... So, I figured, since I feel in an atheist mood, and I have already tried 3 religions (including atheism)... maybe since atheism is lasting the longest I will stick to that... Guest Rabbit Posted August 20, 2005 And plus... think of it this way... you may think your religion is right, what you believe in is right... but 1000 years from now, people may think back on this just like we look back at egyptians or greeks with their many gods, and think, "wow, they believed in that?!?" Personally, I believe god exists, I just don't believe in him to be my god... I don't know why... it's just how I feel... Sometimes I even find myself talking to him, as if he is a neighbor or a man on the street, or a classmate... just talking... swearing at him, asking what he is doing now to help my meaningless existance we call "life" and pretty much shoving everything people say He does for me, and just saying that is what I have accomplished. On my own. I truly believe I am an atheist though, because when I look at it, I realize, hell, I'm not talking to god... I am just talking to thin air, as if I was just trying to fit in somehow... (but I still capitalize He) Share this post Link to post
Cygnus X-1 12 Posted August 20, 2005 then your not an aetheist. You believe in some higher entity, you just dont know what that is yet. Share this post Link to post
Waraddict 0 Posted August 20, 2005 Atheism's existence is pointless, people should atleast believe in a God. Pff... That is like believing in Santa Claus.. You grow out of it... Its just some people never grow up. Pft, you my freind are the worst kind of Athiest (in terms of WHY you are one), this is the reason why I think the whole Santa Clause crap should be discarded, there are too many idiots that get upset about his non-existence (technically he does exist though, St. Nicholas that is, but he definetly doesn't get up to what children think he does) then think they can apply the same logic to God. As for those who think God will always lend a helping hand, he won't, sometimes he might but very rarely and if he does he does it using the rules of the universe he made (why would he do it any other way?), only sometimes does his intervention look like a miracle. What's important to remember is that God is the ultimate parent, he's not going to help us with every single thing in life, some things are just tough luck, but they help us develop as a human, and when we die and go to heaven our life there will make our life on Earth seem almost like nothing. Saracen 16 Posted August 20, 2005 Hypnotist, did you never do Religious Studies at school? This would be where you explore every religion in some detail, that would of given the best ideal into what would suit you best. Share this post Link to post
Guest Rabbit Posted August 21, 2005 I don't know about other countries (or states), but where I live (California, in USA), it isn't allowed to teach about religions, because it somehow offends other people, and schools just don't seem to allow it for some reason... then your not an aetheist. You believe in some higher entity, you just dont know what that is yet. Then... what am I? Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted August 21, 2005 That is because state and religion should always be seperate. Share this post Link to post
