Command & Conquer's 12th Anniversary Celebration

Recommended Posts

The 31st of August means one thing in the world of Command & Conquer, back in 1995 the original Command & Conquer was released, arguably Command & Conquer is the reason why RTS games are so popular today. Cast your mind back 2 years ago, we marked Command & Conquer's 10th Anniversary with many events and special features across the community, spearheaded by CNCNZ.com. That was then and this is now, and today community manager, APOC, announced that EA are putting together a 12th anniversary celebration during the month of September. And something special will be appearing on the Official C&C Site tomorrow that new and old fans will enjoy.

My fellow commanders,

Tomorrow, on August 31, 2007 Command & Conquer celebrates its 12th Anniversary. This is an honor reserved for only a few video game franchises including Mario, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, and so forth. Thanks largely to your efforts and continuing to sustain and grow the Command & Conquer community, we are among great company. Command & Conquer is a legendary franchise and it’s time to celebrate its birth once again.

In order to give back to the fans for your decade of devotion we are putting together a 12th Anniversary celebration during the month of September. However, as any Command & Conquer fan knows, the true party starts tomorrow, August 31st, which will mark 12 years since Command & Conquer Gold launched way back in 1995.

Tomorrow, we have a special surprise that will by no means be "revolutionary", but we think new and old Command & Conquer fans will enjoy it. Continuing on in the month of September, be sure to keep your eyes on our official site at www.commandandconquer.com each week as we plan to celebrate and remember 12 years of Command & Conquer in a number of different ways.

I am personally excited about this community driven initiative and hope you guys enjoy our efforts and passion as we celebrate the Command & Conquer 12th anniversary.

It should be a fun month for Command & Conquer fans. Keep your eyes peeled on our site tomorrow when we officially say Happy Birthday again to Command & Conquer!

Proud to be your official Command & Conquer Community Manager,

APOC

So be sure to check the Official C&C Site soon for something special. Let the speculation begin as to what it could be.

One awesome gift they could give us would be releasing the original C&C as open source, that way the community can work on it and bring it up to spec for newer OS and e.g. network compability. ;)

Man, that would be nice.

But whatever it's going to be, I sure hope it'll be good! :P

Perhaps. I guess it will be something communitish.

I also say HB to Command and Conquer, the greatest RTS series ever, with only one or two misshots.

Boldog születésnapot kommánd és konker!

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, CnC!

Bummer that i wont be here tomorrow...work work!

I do hope you guys enjoy this pleasant surprise. Like I said, its not revolutionary or like OMGZ!!!, but I think its pretty cool. I do hope you guys appreciate and enjoy our efforts to celebrate and recognize, because truly, we are doing this for you, the fans.

Its an initiative I am driving with my marketing comrade and we have some other cool things planned for the month of September that I think you guys will enjoy quite a bit.

So, Happy Birthday C&C!

Now go play the game that started it all once again...if you have not already!

Apoc, i for one am very grateful, since the German versions of CnC are often butchered (And before RA2, the dubs were awful- Congrats on TW, Kanes new voice was far better)

Downloaded both, and when i get from work the day after tomorrow, ill be playing this next to all the other great RTS :)

Its very rare that studios, let alone huge companies as EA let people donwload one of their full games (Rockstar being the exception), so its really a cool thing, and all the effort EA shows with CnC, im very pleased.

Now you have to make all this perfect, and EA will get a better reputation after all the mess.

And i have to admit, you really know about marketing :P

Btw, did you read my PM/the thread i linked to/mentioned?

You should keep an eye out for this, because im planning to jot down everything ill find on what people (myself included) would want to see in the expansion and future CnC games.

Altough im mostly pleased with what i saw- With stress being on mostly ;)

It's nice, but I already got tons of copies. :P

Yes, certainly nice indeed.

But I'm a bit annoyed at the need for setting Win95 compatibility, can't you get a few programmers to get the game up to spec? (And I'm pretty certain that it won't work as well on Vista and future Windows')

I know the suggestion to release the source may be a bit radical, especially for EA, but there's really nothing to lose, just look at Id and Quake 3!

That would be serious work, might as well remake the game from scratch. The compiler Westwood used back in 1994/5 is quite dated. Perhaps we should all work on the FreeCNC project from SVN?

Just having the original source as a reference would make a huge impact.

You all played Unreal Tournament, right?

When Epic stopped supporting UT, a group of volunteers asked if they could continue development on Epic's terms, not truly releasing it as open source.

EA should invite the FreeCNC guys to join discussions about a similar agreement and letting them bring Tibdawn and red alert up to spec.

Ah, you can always dream :P
