Luk3us 63 Posted February 14, 2008 Since C&C3 is going to have subfactions, I would say that in almost total certainty that RA3 will do the same.. The question being, will they stick with the good old "country + one unique unit" or go more along the lines of KW/ZH. Type... Share this post Link to post
TheRoadToDawn 0 Posted February 14, 2008 (edited) Iraq cant be one of them. Lol I would prefer the subsides be like the Main Faction plus the addition subside structure and its bonus units. Thats what I wanted C&C3 Kane's Wrath to be based off of, but I can get accustomed to the KW/ZH type. America > Laser Tech, Commando Tech (stronger infantry based) Germany > Tank Killer Tech, HoloTech (can hide when they want too) France > ...EnviroTech (save the enviroment!) England > AirTech based faction Austrailia > AquaTech based faction Russia > Telsa Based Faction. Experimental units. North Korea > PyroTech Based Iran > NuclearTech Based Cuba > Missile/Ballistic Based Faction Lybia > Salvage/Guerrilla Based Faction Im brainstorming this with the idea of these being ZH type subsides: ( )Japan > Kamakazi Faction ( )Japan > Warrior Faction ( )Japan > Naval Faction *If anyone can think of an Emperor BFD based subfaction for the third Main Faction, do write. Doctor Destiny 41 Posted February 14, 2008 I hope it's RA2 styled again. That was an awesome way to expand the countries and make them different. However, I'm just hoping we have more flexibility mod-wise than we did with RA2... Share this post Link to post
TripleCP 0 Posted February 14, 2008 Would North & South Korea exist in this timeline (not that it really matters in a world with airborne cyberbears)? Korea as a Japanese subfaction would result in a joint declaration of war by N. and S. Korea against EA. Unfortunately, based on the Russian magazine preview I think the subfactions will be based on different generals rather than different nations. Share this post Link to post
Koen 2 Posted February 14, 2008 I think the initial game won't have subfactions, just the 3 sides. Then, in an expansion... Remeber Zero Hour & upcoming Kane's Wrath? Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted February 15, 2008 I think it would be rather lame if they didn't have sub factions or at least country options. Share this post Link to post
TheRoadToDawn 0 Posted February 15, 2008 (edited) I think it would be rather lame if they didn't have sub factions or at least country options. Yeah. Its getting to that time where the demand for an RTS game includes the Risk style domination factor, the easy to use controls to move both your armies and the POV camera, the great detailed graphics, the realistic animation, and the awesome sound effects that make the game look and feel as real as possible. Im not saying sub factions are a requirement, but they add more of a silent objective to gain allies and create enemies to add more fun to his/her video game. Look at Surpreme Commander, Emperor Battle For Dune (yes it the first Risk based RTS made by Westwood, which probably set the standards for game development at Petroglyph), Universe at War, Star Wars EAW, and even Kane's Wrath. While playing Emperor and Star Wars, I loved the idea of armies gathering to kick my a**, with the computer attacking and moving around the map. I also like moving troops around to hold my planets and territories. I also liked to gain as many technological assets as I possibly could, while Star Wars had no subfactions, the population of planets (which i could considered a subfaction) contributed to my success IF they were friendly, or they just gave me something to shoot at if they were sided with my enemy. Im just saying this in my honest opinion, but these are going to be the games that set the standards for what RTS games are and will be here on out. Now unless someone invents a new type of RTS, like RA3's co-op ability (yes i have never heard of a co-op for an RTS), well the standards will probably change again. General Leang 0 Posted February 16, 2008 It is about time Australia is represented. What units or abilities could be used for them? SAS? Apache helicopters? Styer rifles for infantry instead of Carbines? Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted February 17, 2008 Australia will be part of Japan. XD Share this post Link to post
Gen. Yuri 0 Posted February 17, 2008 I'm sorry Krystal, but until I see official information telling me otherwise, I'll have to doubt that. Japan did have most of the Pacific under it's thumb before Pearl Harbor, but I don't think... ah forget it I want more information first. Share this post Link to post
General Leang 0 Posted February 17, 2008 They only got as far as bombing Darwin, basically right at the tip of Australia, yet they were so cocksure they had yen printed up for their takeover, Share this post Link to post

General Leang 0 Posted February 17, 2008 Hmmm, the gloating villian syndrome is as prevent in real life as it is in any Star Wars or Bond film. Share this post Link to post
Alphabear 11 Posted February 17, 2008 They also got submarines into Sydney harbor as well as landing a recon force in Western Australia. But the Australians in New Guinea prevented them from having a staging area for an invasion. This was also the first allied victory over the Japanese despite the US commanders insisting that we retreat. Share this post Link to post
dapperdan 0 Posted February 17, 2008 Interesting.... Then again there is no saying that Japan has conquered any countries at the point the game starts, although the Empire name sort of indicates that they have something going for them. Japan might be a collection of the pacific rim countries with Soviets being mainland Eurasia (Russia, China, The Baltic Sates, possibly Germany this time round) and the allies being the usual USA, UK, France and any other democratic/capatilist country. As for sub-factions I think we can expect the same in this as we got in Zero Hour and KW. Share this post Link to post

Sonic 295 Posted February 18, 2008 There are no sub factions in Red Alert 3. Share this post Link to post
dapperdan 0 Posted February 18, 2008 Nope. No sub-factions in RA3. Until the expansion comes out at least. Share this post Link to post
rEdaSbLood 1 Posted February 18, 2008 this is official? thats odd if so, i mean RA2 had them...well we'll see what happens maybe in order to get more people to buy the expansion they are saving the subfactions Share this post Link to post
dapperdan 0 Posted February 18, 2008 Seems like a running theme. Vanilla for the main game, then expansions for the expansion. Suppose it shortens the development time of the original game though. Can't see why they can't do something like they did in RA2 to begin with though. Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted February 19, 2008 Pfff.. why do they have to do that? Come on, I'll buy the expansion anyway. Give me subsides in the original pls! Share this post Link to post
