Lion Says Goodbye

Recommended Posts

After many years of service, Lion, the long time webmaster of both the C&C Den and RA Den, has decided the time has come for him to retire from the C&C Community. You can read his farewell message at C&C Den.

I'm not sure what will happen to the C&C Den and RA Den, but its a real shame to see Lion finishing. Lion has been a friend of mine since the early days of CNCNZ.com. He is one of the most respected names in the C&C Community. Over the years I've seen many people come and a go in our community but good old Lion has always been there, plugging away and keeping fans updated all the time. But now sadly that has come to end.

On behalf of the team here at CNCNZ.com its a massive thanks to Lion. Be sure to visit the C&C Den and thank him for all of his efforts.

I don't know what's worse - that another c&c legendary webmaster has hit the dust - or the way the ea haters have hijacked his goodbye thread.

i agree gben.

it makes me sad to see him go, i wish he gave a speech so we could understand the situation more.

and i dont blame the EA bashers for pointing fingers. i too feel like they are responsible for the loss of hope & loyalty.

So does this mean the Den is closing too or "changing hands".

This is unfortunate. The community will surely miss him.

I think this means Sonic is the king of the C&C fanworld now.

CNCDENZ.com

I like it!!!

But in all seriousness it really blows to see Lion leave. CNCden was the first C&C fansite I ever visited regularly because of how prompt he was with most information on C&C.

I wish him the best of luck!

As for the goodbye thread, it's sad that it's full of the EA haters now. There are some things that should stay more, say, civilized. Goodbye threads being one of them...

Well its something that can't be done forever, at some stage we have to end it. So I'd say all the losers hijacking the farewell post to spread the toxic hatred of C&C 4 and EA is horrible. That's always been a problem on CNC Den, not trying to insult Lion here, but unfortunately with the comment system in the news script there it was way to easy for people to pretend to be who aren't. A common occurrence was idiots always pretending to be APOC.

So does this mean the Den is closing too or "changing hands".

If I were Lion, and considering the amount content, files and info I'd leave the sites online so people can check that out.

Sorry no.... just no. There is no king of the community, no one is in charge

Anyway, people are jumping to the conclusion that Lion is retiring from the community because of C&C 4. I highly doubt that. Lion is not spiteful, I know he doesn't like the game. I didn't like C&C 3 all that much, it never wanted to make me retire from CNCNZ.com.

Lion is the first guy who posted in his sites my fanart and wallpaper, if he wasnt for him I would have neved had back on those days the motivation to develop my visual design skills to my current level, Lion was is the Man, and he is King in his own right.

All hail the King!

No, but he does have to deal with the fallout from C&C4 in his news comments and might have gotten fed up with it. (Combined with other factors no doubt like real life duties.)

Sad to see him go

Who knows, we might see him again if we ever get a new C&C wich is like the good old C&C formula?

Let us just keep our fingers crossed

I have to deal with them here as well, albeit not as bad, but in end end I don't give **** what people say. But there comes point when "sharing your opinions" becomes trolling.

A great example of this is gateworld.net. Wich is the largest and considerd the official fan site of stargate.

When stargate universe was released, everyone was trolling and whining about it before it was even released.

When SGU was released, it was not like the other stargate series. But with every episode it got better and better. Still many people keep whining and trolling about it, taking every oppertunity to wreck the serie on the site.

What did the owner of gateworld said? Either i will close the site, or i will implent zero tolerance on those who troll. Result, the SGU section on their forums became a pleasant discussion place for the many people who like the serie.

IF and i mean IF this was the reason why Lion quits C&CDen, he would probaly did the same thing.

Bottomline, i think their are other reasons then the C&C4 Troll and flame

Hardly ever visited the Lion's Den, CNCNZ has always been my one stop for CNC news, but it is sad to see the community get a little smaller. I hope the site stays up as a monument to the community. While i don't care for CNC4 myself, all i can really do is look towards the future and hope that EA can reflect apon this and make something truely epic next time, its sad to see the crap thats plaguing his good bye thread, like Troopzor said, things like that need to stay civil.

It's a pitty to see Lion retiring. I think he has retired due to real life issues rather than C&C4, as far as I've read the final blurb.

Keeping both DEN sites and forums running demands a lot of free time. He has to keep the news running, gets a lot of emails from visitors, receives and review maps and other files and he needs to deal with the forums and the comments system, which is really demands attention. Not to count the countless graphics that he generates and some occasional changes in the site to fit seasons and game releases, etc.

Maybe, once the dust settles in his real life, he can return to update the DEN sites as often as he has done during these years. I've experienced a similar situation recently (it is still happening, but it's almost over) because of my graduation course, but I prefer to slow down the updates in my site than retiring :P. Fortunately, some other people help me to keep PPM updated occasionally.

What about Deezire? Did he also retire from the CNC community as well?

Yeah, any garbage EA spews out now can't erase the epic originals we all love. Good people like you guys understand loyalty.

Possibly, same case for me too. C&C4 started many problems among us and broke too many hardcore fans' hearts (No matter if they're EA or Westwood fans). I'm not really sure if he will come back as a former staff like Saracen. If Jon Van do give us a good game, will he come back? I can't tell until time arrives.

can anyone post up Lion's farewell post? I cant seem to access CnC Den at the moment.

Here you go....

After more than a decade of being a part of the Command & Conquer community and webmastering the DEN websites, I have decided to hang up my webmaster title. I don't have a big speech planned, other than to say I've had a super great time over the years. There have been some ups and downs in the C&C community, but for the most part, all has been good.

I want to say thank you to all who have visited and supported the DEN websites. I've had much help from C&C fans over the years. Thanks to Westwood Studios and now Electronic Arts for the C&C games. I've enjoyed playing them. Goodbye and best wishes to all. :)
