Command & Conquer: The First Decade Announced!

Recommended Posts

I am not convinced, in fact, if that were true, why Ebay, Amazon and chips & bits havent this item in their storages?

They have probably been told not to list it yet...

Bit of a coincidence if it's not true... two random SA retailers listing a game with the same name, with a believable release date, at around the same time as this announcement?

It could be a bit like when those book shops were selling the latest Harry Potter book early.

Cheers for now

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 2005--Experience the award-winning Command & Conquer (C&C) series like never before! Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS - News) today announced, Command & Conquer The First Decade, one of the largest PC franchise compilations to date. With over 23 million units sold worldwide to date, the C&C franchise has defined the Real-time strategy (RTS) genre with cutting-edge visuals, epic storylines, and rich mission complexities. The series has evolved over a decade, spawned over a dozen titles, and continues to be the genre benchmark by which all RTS games are measured. With its explosive style of warfare, the C&C franchise has grown over the years to span multiple fictional genres, including the science fiction Tiberium universe, the revisionist history of the Red Alert universe, and a twist on modern warfare with Command & Conquer Generals.

"Command & Conquer The First Decade offers RTS gamers a way to relive the history of C&C, and I'm thrilled to see this collection offered in one package," said Louis Castle, VP of Creative Development at EALA. "It seems like yesterday when we were all pleasantly surprised by the way the gaming community wanted to play this new type of strategy game."

The Command & Conquer The First Decade bonus DVD will feature a half-dozen exclusive video features including an interview with Louis Castle, who is also co-founder of Westwood Studios the creator of the C&C franchise. As a special bonus, C&C fans also have the opportunity to be featured on the exclusive DVD. The search is currently underway to find the world's biggest C&C fan that can showcase and prove their undying devotion to the C&C series via video submission. To find out more information, please visit www.CommandAndConquer.EA.com.

"Command & Conquer The First Decade is more than just another title in the C&C series. This is a monumental milestone in the lineage of the franchise -- marking ten remarkable years of passionate fan dedication from one of the largest gaming communities," said Aaron Kaufman, C&C Community Manager at EALA. "I take great pride in being the C&C Community Manager and am committed to providing continued support to the millions of C&C fans. I look forward to seeing the video submissions for the bonus DVD!"

Command & Conquer The First Decade will combine the following titles:

* Command & Conquer (Aug. 1995)

* Command & Conquer The Covert Operations (April 1996)

* Command & Conquer Red Alert (Oct. 1996)

* Command & Conquer Red Alert The Aftermath (Sept. 1997)

Well..I won't be buying that. Can't stand seeing the older C&C games with the EA logo on the front. Sickens me really.

I think I'll probably get it.

Hopefully they will have fixed the XP install issues and they will include all of the latest patches on the discs....

I'm just thinking about all the people who are now scrabbling for their camcorders to make a video now....

Cheers for now

yeah i will get it if they make it so they can run on xp. i really wanna play TD but windows compatability makes it go so slow. It took me 7 minitues for me to deploy the con yard in the first gdi mission

Ahh... you must have been playing with "REAL" real time enabled :)

7 minutes doesn't seem too bad to deploy something that big!

Seriously. Some hopes or dreams for the release -

* A new multi-game selection menu interface (a bit like Steam from Valve). Launch the menu and then you pick which "flavour" of CnC or RA you want. Being able to customise it would be cool too...

* Maybe some other bonuses (a second DVD would easily hold this...) Dune 2 and Sole Survivor...

<edit>I forgot Dune 2000!!! Dune Anthology anyone?</edit>

* Patches as mentioned above...

* XP compatibility built in...

* Armo(u)red Attack and Attack Copter :D

* News of a new game in the works. All this talk of "reading between the lines" does suggest that they think CnC has a future at EA and not just for recycling.

* NOT including that picture of me dressed as Tanya :oops:

We can only hope...

Cheers for now

haha be great if they stuck your head over tanyas for all the cut-scenes......... what about a decent multi-player set up for all games? sorta gen style so you can have quickmatching or set up games

(or you can pick any army from any game and go to war ie you pick yuri VS demo gen or Soviets (ra) vs soviets (ra2) or {Nod (td) Nod (Fs) } VS {GID (TD) GDI (FS)}

I doubt they will do anything to update any of the games other than package the patches with them and possibly have that through the installer too.

If you are after RA vs CnC vs Generals games then you will have to look to the community as that is where modding comes into it. I doubt it will ever come from EA.

Cheers for now

PS - Aaron can use my image only if he gets one of C&CKing dressed as EVA!!

Do you know if Command&Conquer: The First Decade will fully work (also with all old games) under Windows XP? I mean that e.g. the Network-Mode will work on C&C1...?

And do you think they will add a skirmish in C&C1?

We don't know that yet as it's not covered in the press release so far...

As for Skirmish in TD. I highly doubt it. As I mentioned in a previous post, I think they will be as is, with patches on the disc to apply.

As ever though, time will tell....

Hey there

Just thought I'd report that they've added a little content to the the EA site.

It's just a pic of Kane which links to a "Community Update" outlining the Video submission guidelines etc. Nothing mentioned about the game strangely...

**BEGIN BIG EGO RANT**

If it wasn't for myself and Sonic working up this C&C 10th Anniversary event, this DVD may never have come about.... :D

I request our names and CNCNZ.com be put in the DVD credits for the hard work we put into making C&C 10 a success :wink:

Sonic >> :10: & :10: << :king:

**END EGO RANT**

It's good news this, but not quite the news I wanted to hear... it's C&C: World of Warfare extended and spruced up I'm afraid. :roll:

So... that's the "Big announcement." Awesome. :roll:

Sounds to me like they're putting the series to rest... it's like a "greatest hits" cd.

EDIT: I disagree here King... I think it's bad news. It sounds like the death knell of the series :(

Posted over at CNCDen News Comments by Aaron...

Hey guys,

Please point your attention to www.commandandconquer.ea.com. Currently, we are using our Generals site for the short information available, but a new site for C&C The First Decade will be live soon to follow.

A couple things you should take note of:

1. Click the link of Kane, and the first think you'll notice is the fan video/art contest details have been revealed. Winning submissions are going to be put directly on the Bonus DVD included with the game. That's right, if selected, you will be solidified in C&C history forever on store shelves, in peoples homes, on their big theater screens.

2. What was not mentioned in the press release is: ALL the games in the collection pack will be playable on Windows XP on DVD. This is not a simple export code to WIN XP process. It's actually a very complicated technical process and we have a development team dedicated to making it happen.

I understand there are a number of technical questions and theoretical questions about the compliation and the bonus DVD. I will be monitoring the forums and providing answers shortly.

Long Live C&C; this compilation is a testament to you guys. The Bonus DVD is going to be very fan focused, so get cranking on those movies and art. I want to put you in C&C history.

Good news about XP compatibility there...

Cheers for now
