The Original Command & Conquer 3

Recommended Posts

Tchutch, the webmaster of long running French C&C site, C&C Saga, has notified me about this very interesting news. Look at the screen shots below, what you are looking at here is an initial version of Command & Conquer 3, Westwood's Command & Conquer 3 if you will.

These images follow on from a gallery that we have had here CNCNZ.com for long time, an early concept for C&C 3 from around 2001/2002. To check out larger versions of these images click here. From the same page you can download some concept videos that demonstrate the interface, an upgrade system and unit selection. Alternatively you watch these short video clips via the CNCNZ.com YouTube Channel.

Wow! Its very interesting that they quite stayed true to the original design!

(Logo, interface, colour palette etc)

Altough i dont know why this french site states its the Scrin logo- Could be CABAL or the mutants as well.

Look, even the Mammy is there!

Really, I don't get that impression. Those are only concepts, not an actual game build or anything but it looks nothing like the C&C 3 we today.

Well, the map reminds me of the global map inbetween the missions, and the menu colors are cold and sleek as the menus in the final CnC3.

Additionally, that screenshot has mammoth tanks which look almost the same as todays, the infantry is also grouped up as i know from TW, the ground texture is akin to those of some missionbases, and even Nods and GDIs logos stayed put.

But thats just my impression :)

I know its CnC3 only at the beginning stage, and perhaps was ultimately dropped and started from scratch.

Edit: The vids make it out to be more modern sci-fi-ish in design, but they kept that flashing- Altough here the flash would have been too much

You can see that 3D graphics have improved since this concept art!

Yeah. But look at the size difference of the units. It looks as tho the dropships were suppose to be big enough to transport large units such as the mammoth tank.

They're alright I suppose. The interface though seems to take a lot of room specially all that crap up the top.

The other graphics look interesting though.

Didn't anyone notice that the game was in a frozen state? that or at least the infantry didn't have any animations. The mammoths looked like they were frozen in action. So the hud to me looked like an overlay on a screen shot - specially that last video - with infantry in a firefight frozen and that fire not moving. That makes me wonder if they were going to have a 3d freeze frame - which would be kewl - and even a way to plan your tactics before they are carried out - like a really advanced waypoint. What would have been kewl is if you give units a time break before they do each action. They wait there then carry it out - that would be really kewl to use in the second to last nod mission having every sab cap all the structures at once. any way - - -

That looks really pretty and all but a bit too distracting from the game play. But I do like the way they sized everything up.

It was just an early concept version, so they didn't really did all the animations and stuff.

Looks pretty cool, it looks as if they had done some of the cool small CGI clips which are supposed to go in between the missions. (something I missed in TW)

Timed Waypoints, huh... They would be pretty cool I think.

Well, they had live action videos in TW, so hopefully there will be CGI in KW as well, as more CGI vids in general.

Adam just confirmed that these are real. They meant to showcase the UI, hence the low graphical settings.

I did some vectors of the 3 logos found on the image (looks like a map selection menu), And the Good'ol Westwood Studios logo :D

The Nod logo in the center was hard!, i had to locate the wallpaper with it on in the end and trace that... still was hard :P
