When I first saw it I assumed it was something from EA, and I saw it was in space, and with the Marines, I assumed it was a Starcraft 2 rip off.

 

But its a Mod so its all good.

Hmmm... the Colonial Marines is part of the name for the military in the 'Aliens' universe. They are actually known as USCM as in United States Colonial Marines' which would tie-in nicely with the patriotic stars and stripes shield.

 

Could we be seeing a TC of 'AVP' in CNC3?

Of course it is also used in Battlestar Galatica. (And I note that in Starcraft, they are called marines but from the Terran Dominion, or Confederacy.)

I was thinking more of Starship Troopers, Starcraft, or even another Halo RTS Mod. And just because it has the American Flag does not mean its a Generals Mod. Like the TS mod coming over to C&C, it could be a C&C3 mod as well.

 

Reguarding the Halo idea, i know its not the Marine logo, but it could be something similar.

The backing to the Insignia matches that of the Colonial Marine Corps in Alien as found here

 

The insignia patch appears to be from the "UNITED STATES COLONIAL MARINE CORPS AEROSPACE WING COMMAND"

 

The Colonial Marine Aerospace Wing is an administrative formation responsible for the operation of all aerospace craft within the Marine Space Force to which it is attached. Wing tasks include air superiority missions, reconnaissance, close air support, dedicated strike, forward supply, transport, casualty evacuation and search and rescue. Aerospace operations are also an integrated part of the standard Marine Infantry. A particular division is divided into three groups. Drop Groups ferry and support invading Marine Infantry. Tactical group is tasked with recon, and attack missions. Finally, the Support Group is assigned CasEvac, search and rescue, psyops, special forces insertion, and like tasks. The major workhorse of the Colonial Marine Corps is the UD-4 'Cheyenne,' compromising a majority of all three groups.

Apologies for dredging this up, I hadn't realized our little teaser had made it all the way out here or I would have posted sooner. I just have some comments to add to some things a few of you were speculating on.

 

 

The image itself is a reference to the "Earth: Fight For Her" poster you see on the first level of Halo 1. Yes, the filename is deliberate. "Make your decisions accordingly" is taken from the ilovebees ARG, and is more or less subtle slap to Microsoft and Ensemble for a couple things they've taken from Asylum recently.

 

Yes, the AWSC insignia should look familiar.

The stars represent the 9 original colonies of the AWSC, comprising the "Core" systems. You can find more information about that on the SSP Wiki page. The design in the center alludes to the UNSC logo we had designed for Halogen. And yes, the background colors are from the CMC logo in Aliens.

 

The quote is from Full Metal Jacket, and everyone fails for not even noticing that. :lol: The name Colonial Marines, as far as I know, isn't specifically taken from Aliens. It's a pretty vague term.

It's interesting because I focused my search on "colonial marines" being the one combination of words that was unique and most likely to give the best results in the quote.

 

I never considered searching the other parts of the phrase, because I just assumed it would a statiscally large number of choices.

 

But yet... when I go through the motions... it takes me straight to "full metal jacket". Go figure. (Of course the source of the quote doesn't help in the identity of the eventual mod... so it's a moot point... despite the fact the points were apparently on offer!)
