C&C FPS Unofficially Confirmed

Recommended Posts

As EA apparently scramble to cover up the all these C&C FPS rumours more news surfaces at GameSpot that unofficially confirms that a new "Renegade/Battlefield-style" shooter set in the Command & Conquer universe in the works. Here is the story from GameSpot.

Earlier this week, Electronic Arts posted a job listing for its Los Angeles studio. The position in question is a sound designer to work on "a next-generation first person shooter game" from "a widely recognized leading sci-fi franchise." Though EA owns the rights to the sci-fi series Syndicate, Wing Commander, and System Shock, EALA is most famous for one sci-fi series in particular--Command & Conquer.

The job listing lead to speculation of a remake or sequel to the 2002 shooter Command & Conquer: Renegade. While the possibility seemed likely, today GameSpot received direct confirmation from a source with knowledge of EALA's development resource allocation that work on a multiplatform C&C FPS is well under way.

Though the source, who spoke under condition of anonymity, wouldn't go into much detail, the project is indeed a "Renegade/Battlefield-style FPS." No information on a title, release date, or specific platforms was provided, but games from EALA's World War II FPS series Medal of Honor have been released for the PC, Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The most recent C&C game, Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars, was a best-seller on both the 360 and PC.

So nothing is 100% confirmed and this news should still be filed under "R" for rumors. If it turns out to be true I'm sure a new C&C FPS will welcomed with open arms.

Why not "R" for rubbish? :P

But if they made a C&C FPS simliar to that of BF2, that would be pretty nice.

I for one hope that they'll literally abandon generals in the future.

No flame war please :D

The Generals storyline would really fit an RTS game...

A generals based FPS would be boring as there are plenty of other similar types of FPS's like that already out.

Generals takes the sci-fi away from C&C.

That's not fiction, soon there will be something very similar in the real world.

Agreed. The FPS should indeed be the TD > TS sequel of Renegade and the hopeful later expansion should be from TS>C&C3. 8)

Nah. It should be an official Red Alert game. I'm tired of the Tiberium saga already.
I agree. I WANT TESLA TANKS!!!

So you believe EA should wipe out all the hard work of the APB team, and make a Red Alert FPS? I wouldn't agree with that at all.

I don't think anyone said that. They got permission to be stand alone, it's a Renegade mod and it's a FPS of Red Alert. I was thinking more about a NEW part of the RA saga, instead of a rehash. Something in between RA and RA2 would be super epicness... or even after YR, before Tib Dawn.

The idea of C&C following the events of Yuri's Revenge still make me cringe.

How does that make any sense?

YR would be such a cool FPS imagine controlling someone else and making them kill their own team that would be SO COOL!!!

I guess it's all the way the modding community worked it out. We figure that if the Soviets win in Red Alert, you go right to Tib Dawn. But if the Allies win, you get the events of Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. However, it all ties together in some way because the Temple of Nod in Renegade has Soviet Apocalypse Tanks on a poster in it.

Well at the end of Westwood's C&C 3 Kane was able to acquire a new body.. (cos concepts show he was just a head in concept and the body that McNeil punctured was useless). And was able to acquire Scrin technology for time travel and pyschic powers. With this technology he believed he could go back in time after the 1st Red Alert War and reside in Russia for 10 years slowly focussing his abilities for Psychic domination.

He did this while working his way into Russian Government, and took on the name Yuri to cover his past from the previous war. Using Romanov as a puppet he would set out in his attempt to crush the Aliied forces to prevent the uprising of the Global defense Initiative. It obviously failed.

C&C 4 was to start with Kane presumed dead and missing permanently. Nod was disbanding (ala. Modern C&C 3). The Red Alert 2 war had kept the timeline the same but changed something enough for the 4th Tiberium war to be a little different. The question of how the events in C&C 4 turned out, would only be answered in the periodic transition between Red Alert 3 and Tiberian Dawn.

C&C story always follows the good sides' endings. Adam Isgreen says so. Also, according to him RA2 and YR would have taken place in an alternate timeline. Alas, this is speculative now as he says, since EA holds the rights to C&C and can do whatever they want with the story. Just wanted to let you know.

I think you guys are jumping to really big conclusions here. Especially when the news tells you that its going to be (well speculated) a "Renegade/Battlefield-style" shooter set in the Command & Conquer universe. To me this translates to all the most recognisable C&C characters, tanks, vehicles in the Battlefield style system.

I don't see any future C&C FPS being a major chapter to the whole C&C storyline, just something that accompanies it.

Probably but we can dream, can't we?
