C&C3: Third Faction to be Revealed on 19/12

Recommended Posts

The latest Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars newsletter has been sent out to all subscribers. The biggest news from the newsletter is the announcement that the much anticipated third side will be revealed on December 19th in the Games for Windows magazine, just in time for Christmas. Also, the new C&C 3 logo has been released as well. A mix of the classic logo but with a modern twist, I'm not sure I like the big number 3 in background though.

I like it. The text is more along the lines of the classic C&C feel, unlike the Generals version (which is cool in its own little way)

The three is kind of ominous. Maybe...eh I dont know. I guess we'll see how this third side plays out.

Wouldn't like to come face to face with this Scrin scout unit. Kill it! Kill it with a spork!

I hope we can see some of the "Tiberium Twilight" units in C&C3, despite EA's announcement of no cybernetics.

Uh... back in '05 I knew it as the CABAL Swarmling. But then again, times change.

This must be an early version:

http://www.cnc-source.com/forums/index.php...si&img=3958

The one you posted looks pretty CABAL-ish to me, though.

I might as well tell you (cos I don't care now) that half of these so-called Westwood C&C 3/Continuum concepts are actually leaked concepts for the C&C 3 currently in development. It's like This concept was supposed to be for a game called Continuum. That was never a game ever put into development, it was simply a codename for C&C 3. Now you can see that exact same powerplant in Nod's structure list now.

It's like the oldest concept It's still this C&C 3. This is Scrin, but EA naturally fed us the bullcrap to cool down the rumours. Everything we've seen since mid 2004 has been C&C 3 in development. Yes this game has been in the mill for that long. We've just been played as dumb all this time.

And as for all these old concept artists saying it was for a game called continuum. 3 letters, NDA. It was all a cover story.

So anything you've seen that's looked remotely alien since 2004. Is in fact the 3rd side, the Scrin. That is why I've never said that the 3rd side is something different from the Scrin, cos I've known all along!

Yeah the "3" logo looks silly...

It really sticks out, indicating the emphasis is in the wrong place - are we looking for a game called "3" or a "C&C" game???

It would probably be much better looking if they simply reversed the colours so that C&C was green... or maybe the traditional gold with tiberium wars in green?

Comparing the two, the other three doesn't look so bad... I was going to suggest a more futuristic font for the three. But the old C&C font back is a big plus.

I was thinking the roman numerals idea probably would've been a good idea expect AOE has already used it. It's C&C 3, we have 3 sides for the first time - it would be good to see some parallels between the three logo and the three sides...

... which all know is GDI, NOD and the cast from "Dancing with the Stars".

I'm wasn't keen on the idea of changing the C&C logo for the core C&C universe series so I'm very glad that they've gone back to the original logo's format.

I still wish they'd used the original logo though, the bold golden brazened "Command & Conquer" logo always had a greater presence than Generals' "high tech" version and now it just feels too clean.

I agree with you guys about the "3" too. It's done in the same typeface as the "Command & Conquer", so if they went back to the original's title the "3" would follow suit and look much better - and more certifiably "C&Ced". ;)

i too prefer the old logo, but then again, i aint not gonna buy it cuz of the logo, and chances are i willonly see the logo once on the cover, once on the disc and once when it loads. other than that the box will be in the cupboard, the disc in the drive, and i prolly wont be paying attention to the loading screens anyway.

But who are we kidding, this is the final logo, best to get use to it now I suppose. Meh, its not the end of the world. ;)

When you put both of these logo side by side its clear which one stands out more.

Maybe EA have more plans for the new logo? Perhaps it will be spruced up when it comes time to design the box art.

me too, the right one is the good one. I think it's good that EA have looked into the logo as many people did critisise it when it was first shown, but its just abit unfortunate that the new one they unvieled has quite matched people's expectations. but Nash's re-doin of the logo seems to have hit the spot nicely.

Who knows, it might change again, the Red Alert 2 logo did many a time if i remember correctly.

Hey guys,

General Kane, i'm going to commend you on your logo creation, however I have a few critiques as someone who has seen many logos in my time...

-The 3 is very disproportionate to the rest of the logo, it looks too tall and wonky. Numbers in logos should be proportionate to the actual logo and it looks out of place right now.

-The green box behind the logo isn't fade well, but certainly it could be part of an "animation" of some sort theoretically, but i'm not feeling the green box, i like the tone you're going for, just think the implementation needs to be more seamlessly integrated

Other than that, the point of your logo is simply to put the old "3" behind the new logo which is the main critique i've seen from those who do not like the logo.

Lets refresh on something here however. When we designed this logo, we took the fans comments and feelings into consideration heavily. We knew you guys wanted the ampersand (&) back and were confused as to why we put a "+" in the old logo, well, I was confused why we did that to, lol.

We knew you guys are traditionalists, in fact, those who visit this site, the Den, and PCNC in particular I would classify as extreme traditionalists and nostalgists so to speak. So in your defense, we looked back at the old logo and reincarnated it. Trust me when I say, we went thru many iterations on different logos, and at the end of the day we kept coming back to the traditional nostalgic C&C logo. We gave it a little more sleek look, more of a widescreen look persay.

The "3" is the biggest subject of controversy and was without question the HARDEST part of the logo design. At one point we had a "3" that was three Tiberium crystals, I actually thought it was very cool, but it just wasn't legible or noticeable, too subtle. We had a logo with the 3 off-set to the right, the bottom, the top, roman numerals, my gosh, it was crazy, but again, at the end of the day, we felt the "3" we chose worked the best. It will have a more embossed "tiberium" look to it on the packaging.

And lastly, we're putting the prominence in the logo back on "Command & Conquer", that is why Tiberium Wars takes second priority. When you walk into a store, we want you to see a "C&C" game, or when you look online. We don't want you to see "Tiberium Wars" and be like, whats that. Alright, so those of you that are experts know immedietly Tiberium=C&C, but...a lot of people don't. The point is, C&C is what holds this game together and when you look at a packaging, thats what I believe you want to see first. So, we flipped the prominence in comparison to past C&C games where "Red Alert" or "Tiberian" took the larger font, and I think it works a lot better. It just looks funky to me to see "C&C" smaller than the subtitle, for me, that makes no sense.

So here is the bottom line guys, we know your extremely hardcore to the max and you live and die for the past 10 years of C&C. This is a new decade of C&C and "C&C is back", but with respect to our development team, we don't want to just immitate what's been done over and over again. Things have to change to stay fresh, but there is plenty of "old-school" and nostalgic aspects of C&C 3 from the gameplay to the story to the logo to the packaging.

I 100% agree with Sonic in that its very challenging to promote "fun" in the community when you are immedietly thrown under the bus before you've barely let out a breath. I don't personally think we shoud be subject to agree with all critiques, finding a better common ground would be good :-)

For all the people that dislike the new logo, there are quite few more that like it, just read the different boards. So if you don't like the new logo, that doesn't mean that the C&C world has turned upside down and its doomsday. We mean it when we say we are listening to the community and doing everything possible that we agree with...with respect to our art and vision of C&C 3, that we'd like to accomodate, make sacrifice, and put in the game.

Anyhow, thats my rant, i'll take the feedback about the logo to the team but I cannot promise change at this stage, we shall see.

Man we need APOC back, double team action would be great right about now :-)

p.s - as I said in a previous forum, November was slow because we had to focus on Rise of the Witch-king which is launching Thursday, now with that out the door we are putting full force into C&C 3 going forward, so you'll be seeing a lot more info in the short coming months.

Hi Predator, welcome to our forums.

The new logo is growing me. I can live it. I don't think Kane Nash's creation was an effort replace the new one, just to show everyone what possible merging of the old and new one would look like.

And before any one second questions it. Yes it is the real Predator, our community manager
